Job summary

Amazon Data Services Ireland Limited seeks an experienced Environmental Engineer to lead environmental permitting, licensing, and compliance for AWS data centre projects in Ireland. You will manage IEL applications, EIARs, EIA screening, and AA processes while coordinating with Real Estate, Legal, and Design teams to ensure compliant site development.

You will advise on Irish/EU environmental regulations, manage stakeholder engagements, and oversee external consultants to deliver timely permits

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related discipline.
Minimum 5 years' relevant experience delivering environmental due diligence, permitting/licensing, and compliance for large-scale infrastructure projects.
In-depth knowledge and experience of the IED licensing process, including IEL applications.
Strong understanding of Irish and EU environmental regulatory requirements (EIA, Habitats, Birds, Air Quality, WFD).
At least 3 years of project or task management experience for environmental permitting/due diligence projects.
Ability to coordinate and manage large, multi-disciplinary projects.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with stakeholders at all levels.
Proven track record in managing internal and external stakeholders and regulatory engagements.
Understanding of prevailing Irish and EU environmental and planning legislation.
Full driver's license and willingness to travel within Ireland and the EMEA region.

Responsibilities

Support the delivery of environmental permitting and licensing workstreams on data centre projects (IEL, EIAR, EIA screening, AA).
Assess environmental risks and develop mitigations to support project delivery.
Implement environmental due diligence activities (Phase I/II ESAs, regulatory evaluations, air quality, noise assessments).
Deliver environmental permits, licences, approvals, and plans for data centre locations and expansions.
Manage ongoing environmental compliance obligations post-consent (licence conditions, monitoring, reporting).
Communicate environmental requirements and risks to internal and external project partners.
Coordinate with Real Estate, Design, Water, Legal, Risk, Power, Public Policy and others to ensure environmentally compliant site designs.
Develop site development and permitting strategies that are sustainable and timely.
Lead regulatory agency interactions and negotiations with EPA, local authorities, and planning bodies.
Lead consultations with external stakeholders and authorities as required on projects.
Procure and manage external environmental consultants and review technical inputs.
Develop detailed compliance plans for environmental licences and permits as sites go live.
Track metrics to evaluate project success and compliance status.
Maintain knowledge of environmental legislation and advise on AWS planning in Ireland.
