You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, environmental experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for environmental aspects while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.
Join a diverse, dynamic, and enthusiastic team of environmental professionals who play a leading role in environmental permitting and compliance at Amazon Web Services (AWS). The work of our Regional Environmental Engineers is critical to enabling AWS's growth in Ireland and across the EMEA region.
The AWS Environmental team is an expanding and dynamic team that is critical to enabling AWS's growth around the world, as well as ensuring compliance of AWS's global operations, including physical data centres and other AWS facilities. The team has responsibility for architecting and implementing AWS's environmental programmes, including defining and implementing risk management and compliance systems; setting and refining policies and procedures; overseeing the development of standards, tools, auditing and metrics; and engaging with all AWS business units to provide scalable and effective compliance strategies that support current and future business objectives while ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.
You will partner with AWS stakeholders to develop regional and site‑specific development strategies enabling the design, construction and operation of AWS data centres and infrastructure in Ireland. You will lead environmental due diligence for site selection and acquisition, develop and execute regional and site‑specific environmental permitting strategies (with a predominant focus on Industrial Emissions Directive (IED) licensing here in Ireland), support environmental compliance during design and construction, and prepare for data centre operations. This role requires regular engagement throughout the development lifecycle with multiple AWS stakeholders including Real Estate, Legal, Risk, Water, Design, Public Policy, Construction, and Operational teams, as well as external stakeholders including the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), local authorities, An Coimisiún Pleanála, consultants, and contractors.
A successful candidate in this role will have a proven track record of delivering multiple, high‑priority projects with tight timelines that require strong communication with partner teams, outside consultants and counsel, and regulatory agencies. The candidate must have a strong understanding of Irish and EU environmental permitting, licensing, and compliance requirements associated with large‑scale infrastructure, with particular experience in Industrial Emissions Directive (IED) licensing, Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), Appropriate Assessment (AA), and planning consent processes.
