Castle Craig Hospital in Smarmore Castle, Co. Louth, Ireland, is seeking a Recovery Worker (Addiction) to join the Therapy team. The role focuses on supporting patients within a 12-step framework, with day shifts and weekend work on 12-hour shifts.
The ideal candidate has strong knowledge of the 12 steps, is a capable communicator of AA/NA/CA, and will assist both therapy and nursing staff while maintaining high standards of care and patient dignity. Sobriety for at least two years is required.

Smarmore Castle is a residential alcohol, drug and gambling rehabilitation clinic that treats alcoholism, drug and gambling addiction. Our aim is to help patients achieve abstinence through an intensive,personalised treatment programme that follows the 12 Steps, providesmedically managed detoxification, addiction counselling andcomplementary therapies.
As part of our ongoing service development, capacity building, and commitment to continuous professional development, we are seeking to appoint a Recovery Worker to join our team.
The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of 12-step recovery and is passionate about helping others in their recovery journey.
As any former patient at Smarmore Castle knows, our Recovery Workers provide key support to patients and the therapy team, working day shifts and on weekends, in a key role to support our patient community. Any candidate for this role will work 12-hour shifts in a week, weekend work is required, and you must be sober for at least two years.
Requirements for the role:
1. Assist in the admission process when required.
2. Assist with transfer of luggage when needed.
3. Provide routine checks and walk-throughs.
4. Be available to talk with patients at all times in a courteous and respectful manner.
5. Prepare patient folders for new admissions.
6. Assist in delivering a high standard of patient care.
7. Engage with patients during meals, groups and community activities.
8. Assist with DVDs and recreational activities.
9. Facilitate non-therapeutic groups.
10. Redirect patients and address programme rule violations.
11. Escort patients on various activities and meetings.
12. Assist the medical team in locating and collecting patients.
13. Maintain campus presence.
14. Supervise entertainment nights and monitor patients.
15. Maintain competence in Basic Life Support (BLS)
16. Manage telephone and personal enquiries.
17. Perform additional duties as directed by senior staff.
Pay: €14.96-€17.95 per hour
