Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Carry out daily fish husbandry, stock management, feeding and monitoring duties.
• Monitor fish health, behaviour, welfare and feed performance.

• Monitor water quality, oxygen levels and other key production parameters.
• Maintain accurate production and stock records.
• Clean and maintain tanks, raceways, equipment and working areas.
• Carry out routine maintenance of pumps, pipework and other farm equipment.
• Follow biosecurity, fish welfare and health & safety procedures.
• Identify and report any fish health, water quality or equipment concerns.
• Support the wider team with general farm duties as required.

Aquaculture Technician - Kilkenny, Ireland - €37,000-€43,000 + Shared Accommodation

The Job:

We are recruiting an Aquaculture Technician to join the established trout farming operation. This is a hands on role suited to someone with experience in aquaculture, fish farming, fisheries or a similar practical environment. You will support the day to day running of the site, maintaining high standards of fish welfare, production, biosecurity and site maintenance.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out daily fish husbandry, stock management, feeding and monitoring duties
• Monitor fish health, behaviour, welfare and feed performance
• Grade, handle, move and harvest fish as required
• Monitor water quality, oxygen levels and other key production parameters
• Maintain accurate production and stock records
• Clean and maintain tanks, raceways, equipment and working areas
• Carry out routine maintenance of pumps, pipework and other farm equipment
• Follow biosecurity, fish welfare and health & safety procedures
• Identify and report any fish health, water quality or equipment concerns
• Support the wider team with general farm duties as required.

The Company:

An established commercial trout farming business, with a focus on fish welfare, production standards and quality throughout the farming operation.

The Candidate:

• Previous experience in aquaculture, fish farming, fisheries or a similar practical agricultural environment is preferred
• A qualification in aquaculture, fisheries, marine biology, agriculture or a related discipline would be advantageous
• Strong practical and mechanical aptitude with an ability to work confidently around farm equipment
• Good understanding of animal welfare, biosecurity and safe working practices
• Comfortable working outdoors and undertaking physically active work
• Reliable, organised and able to work both independently and as part of a team
• Willing to work flexible hours when required around fish husbandry and production needs
• Full driving licence preferred
