Midland Steel Reinforcement Supplies in Portlaoise, Co. Laois, Ireland, seeks an experienced Research and Development Project Manager to lead automation and engineering innovation across manufacturing operations.

You will manage full R&D lifecycles, develop robotics and AI-driven solutions, and guide a technical team toward Industry 4.0 excellence while collaborating with external partners and internal stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechatronics Engineering or closely related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years hands-on experience in industrial automation and robotics.
• Experience with KUKA robotics programming, simulation, installation and maintenance.
• Software development skills in Python and/or C#, with Power Platform exposure.
• Experience with BIM-to-Robot workflows and Tekla Structures is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with PLC programming, SCADA/HMI systems, and industrial automation software.
• CAD/simulation tools: SolidWorks, Solid Edge, AutoCAD.
• Proven experience managing R&D projects end-to-end including prototyping, testing, vendor management, commissioning.

Responsabilités

• Lead automation and engineering innovation programme across Midland Steel operations.
• Manage full R&D project lifecycles from prototyping to post-installation optimisation.
• Develop and simulate robot programmes using KUKA tools; maintain robotic systems.
• Integrate BIM-to-Robot workflows to connect design data with production systems.
• Develop automation software and dashboards using Python, C#, Power Platform.
• Drive digitisation with KPI reporting and AI tool integration.
• Lead external partnerships and act as primary contact for automation vendors.
• Provide leadership and mentorship to the R&D engineering team.
