Job summary

SMBC Group is seeking an Associate QA Engineer on a 12-month fixed-term contract in Tralee. The role sits within our Technology QA team, offering exposure to manual and automated testing, Jira/Xray usage, Agile delivery, and enterprise-scale platforms.

You will work with developers, BAs and project teams to ensure quality and performance of banking applications. The position is hybrid, requiring attendance at the Tralee office with some remote work.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or related field.
• Knowledge of SDLC concepts and QA methodologies.
• Experience with Agile practices and iterative delivery.

Responsibilities

• Design and execute test cases for functional and non-functional requirements.
• Identify, document, track and validate defects across applications and integrated systems.
• Create and maintain test plans, test cases and test scripts using Jira and Xray.
• Support regression testing activities and ensure test coverage across releases.
• Develop and maintain test data for testing activities.
• Analyze test results and provide feedback to development teams.
• Assist in maintaining automated testing frameworks and scripts.
• Collaborate with development, business and project teams to deliver solutions.
• Contribute to continuous QA process improvements.
• Produce clear test reporting for stakeholders and management.

Role Description

SMBC Group is seeking an Associate QA Engineer on a 12-month contract basis to join our growing Technology team in Tralee. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about Quality Assurance and looking to develop their career in software testing within a fast-paced and collaborative environment.

You will work closely with developers, business analysts and project teams to ensure the quality, reliability and performance of critical banking applications and internal systems. The role offers exposure to both manual and automated testing practices, Agile delivery methodologies and enterprise-scale technology platforms while supporting your ongoing professional development within a global organisation.

This role will report to the Director of Quality Assurance Testing

Role Objectives: Delivery

• Design and execute test cases for functional and non-functional requirements.
• Identify, document, track and validate defects across applications and integrated systems.
• Create and maintain test plans, test cases and test scripts using Jira and Xray.
• Support regression testing activities and ensure test coverage across application releases.
• Develop and maintain test data required for testing activities.
• Analyse test results and provide feedback to development teams.
• Assist in maintaining automated testing frameworks and automation scripts.
• Collaborate with development, business and project teams to deliver high-quality software solutions.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across QA processes and testing practices.
• Produce clear and concise test reporting for stakeholders and management.
• Prioritise workload effectively while working on multiple initiatives.

Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related discipline.
• Understanding of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) concepts and QA methodologies.
• Knowledge of Agile development practices and iterative delivery models.
• Experience using defect and test management tools such as Jira and Xray.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively to deadlines.
• A genuine passion for Quality Assurance and software testing.
• Exposure to test automation tools such as Playwright, Selenium or RFT.
• Basic programming knowledge in Java or Python.
• Experience creating test cases from functional and non-functional requirements.
• Experience within financial services or payments-related applications.
• Understanding of test automation frameworks and automated testing concepts.
