Job summary

Focus Ireland is seeking a Project Worker for Georges Hill Short-Term Accommodation in Dublin. You will support young people experiencing homelessness to build stability, navigate challenges, and plan for secure, long-term accommodation.

The role involves caseload management, assessments, advocacy, and collaboration with housing providers and authorities. You will work on a 7-day rota, including reception duties, and engage in team meetings and training to ensure a high standard of care.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Social Care or related area, and/or CORU-registered Social Care Worker.
  • At least 1 year direct experience in social care with disadvantaged or vulnerable young people.
  • Understanding of issues affecting young people living away from home and its impacts on development.
  • Experience supporting individuals with high-risk situations or challenging behaviour.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team towards shared goals.
  • Willingness to manage lone working responsibilities and flexible hours, including out-of-hours shifts.
  • Awareness of homelessness sector services (Desirable).
  • Understanding trauma-informed approaches when supporting vulnerable individuals (Desirable).

Responsibilities

  • Work within Focus Ireland's objectives, values, and policies, including Health & Safety requirements.
  • Support the day-to-day operation of the STA on a 7-day rota, including reception duties.
  • Build positive relationships with young people and support them on their path to stability and independent living.
  • Manage a designated caseload and meet with clients regularly to support move-on plans.
  • Complete assessments and support plans using the Case Management System.
  • Provide information, advice, advocacy and support in welfare rights, housing, education, training, employment, and access to accommodation.
  • Maintain accurate casework records in line with procedures and GDPR.
  • Liaise with internal teams and external agencies including housing providers and local authorities.
  • Attend team meetings, supervision, reflective practice groups, and training.
  • Undertake additional duties to support service delivery and organisational objectives.

Job description

Project Worker, Georges Hill Short-Term Accommodation, Dublin

Location: Dublin 7
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time (39 hours)

The Project Worker plays a key role in supporting young people experiencing homelessness to build stability, develop independence, and plan for their futures. Working closely with residents of George’s Hill Short Term Accomodation, you will build trusting relationships and provide consistent, person-centred support. You will help young people navigate challenges, access opportunities, and progress towards secure, long-term accommodation.

What you will do:
  • Work within Focus Ireland's objectives, values, and policies, including Health & Safety requirements.

  • Support the day-to-day operation of the STA on a 7-day rota, including reception duties.

  • Build positive and trusting relationships with young people who are experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness, supporting them on their journey towards stability and independent living.

  • Manage a designated caseload and meet regularly with clients to support progress against individual move-on plans.

  • Complete assessments and support plans using the Case Management System to assist clients in developing the skills needed for independent living.

  • Provide information, advice, advocacy, and support in areas such as welfare rights, housing, education, training, employment, and access to accommodation.

  • Maintain accurate casework records and ensure all information is recorded in line with organisational procedures and GDPR requirements.

  • Liaise and work collaboratively with internal teams and external agencies, including housing providers, local authorities, and community-based services.

  • Attend team meetings, supervision sessions, reflective practice groups, and training as required.

  • Undertake additional duties as assigned to support the delivery of the service and organisational objectives.

What you will need:
  • A third-level qualification at degree level in Social Care or a related area, such as Youth Work, Social Studies, Addiction Studies, Psychology, or similar, and/or be a CORU-registered Social Care Worker.

  • A minimum of one year's direct experience in the social care field, working with disadvantaged or vulnerable young people.

  • A strong understanding of the issues affecting young people who are living away from home, and the impact these can have on their physical, emotional, and psychological development.

  • Relevant experience supporting individuals who may present with high-risk situations or challenging behaviour.

  • Experience of working effectively as part of a team towards shared goals and positive outcomes.

  • The ability to manage lone working responsibilities and work flexibly, including out-of-hours shifts where required.

  • A working knowledge of services and supports within the homelessness sector. (Desirable)

  • An awareness of child protection and safeguarding practices, with the ability to respond appropriately to concerns. (Desirable)

  • An understanding of trauma-informed approaches and their application when supporting vulnerable individuals and young people. (Desirable)
