Job summary

Roughan O’Donovan invites applications for an experienced project resident engineer to join an 18-month contract in the Cork area. You will lead and supervise the site team delivering bridge and local road diversion works, ensuring compliance with contract specs and health and safety standards in a live railway environment.

The role requires a senior-level civil engineer with PW-CF3 contract experience, railway exposure, and strong coordination with design teams, stakeholders and utilities.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree (Level 8) or equivalent.
• 15+ years postgraduate experience in supervising major civil works.
• 10+ years civil engineering experience and 7+ years as project/senior resident engineer on civil projects (>€15M, >€0.5M bridge).
• Experience as project/senior resident engineer on PW-CF3 contracts.
• Experience supervising works in a railway environment.
• Experience administering public works contracts.
• Chartered engineer status (CEng/MIEI) desirable.
• Personal Track Safety training desirable.
• Knowledge of Iarnród Eireann PMP desirable.
• Awareness of health and safety legislation desirable.
• Dispute management experience desirable.
• Value engineering assessment/approval experience desirable.

About The Role

You will manage and supervise the site supervision team responsible for the delivery of several bridge construction and local road diversion projects in county Cork. The role will involve overseeing day-to-day site operations and ensuring compliance with contract specifications, health and safety requirements, quality standards and environmental regulations in a live railway environment.

Duties

• Assist the employer’s representative in the performance of his/her duties
• Administer the public works contract for civil engineering works designed by the employer (PW-CF3)
• Manage the site-based team, delegate tasks and monitor the execution of the works in accordance with the contract requirements
• Review the contractor’s submissions, including method statements, temporary traffic management plans and environmental management plans
• Review technical queries and liaise with the design team on any design-related matters
• Liaise with stakeholders and utility providers
• Establish procedures and systems for quality control, accurate record-keeping and claims management

Essential

• A degree in engineering (Level 8 in the National Framework of Qualifications or equivalent)
• At least 15 years’ postgraduate experience in the supervision of major civil engineering works, including:
  • a minimum of ten years’ experience in civil engineering works and a minimum of seven years’ combined experience in the role of project/senior resident engineer or equivalent on civil engineering projects, including:
    • civil infrastructure projects (rail/roads) including at least one with a construction value in excess of €15.0 million (exclusive of VAT)
    • bridge projects including at least one individual bridge structure with a construction value in excess of €0.5 million (exclusive of VAT)
• Have undertaken the role of project/senior resident engineer or equivalent on civil infrastructure projects constructed under the Public Works Contract (PW-CF3)
• Experience in the supervision of works in a railway environment
• Experience in administering the public works forms of contract

Desirable

• Chartered engineer status (CEng MIEI or equivalent)
• Personal Track Safety training
• Knowledge and experience of the Iarnród Eireann Project Management Procedures (PMP)
• Knowledge and awareness of health and safety legislation and regulations
• Experience of dispute management procedures under civil engineering construction contracts
• Experience in the assessment and approval or otherwise of value engineering proposals
