Job summary

Mott MacDonald is seeking a Project Manager to lead and deliver complex infrastructure programmes in Ireland. Based in Dublin or Cork, you will join a multidisciplinary team of experts and report to the Senior Project Manager. The role focuses on governance, risk management and high‑quality client service.

We welcome engineers with project management experience, chartership progress toward ChPP/PMI, and proven ability to lead project teams. Familiarity with FIDIC/NEC contracts is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Engineering or PM degree or equivalent experience.
  • APM/PMI membership or similar professional recognition.
  • Project management experience on infrastructure projects and leading teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead complex infrastructure workstreams and report to Senior PM.
  • Manage time, cost and quality with effective governance.

About the business unit

The Advisory and Programme Delivery (APD) unit delivers management services in all the sectors that Mott MacDonald operate in the Built Environment, Defence, Energy, Water, Transportation and, Education, Health and Care. We deliver tailored solutions that directly address our clients’ key challenges, combining our world-leading project expertise with unrivaled programme delivery capabilities and advisory services.

Our APD team in Ireland is expanding, and we have multiple exciting opportunities for project and commercial managers. We are a vibrant team based across Belfast, Dublin, Cork and Galway with an ambitious goal of growing to match our expanding portfolio. Our core team consists of professionally qualified and experienced Project/Programme Managers, Planners, Commercial Managers, and Quantity Surveyors.

Overview of the role

We are seeking a highly motivated individual with project management experience, ideally within the consultancy and engineering sectors – who brings a driven attitude, strong integration skills, and a commitment to growing our team, representing Mott MacDonald, and delivering exceptional service to our clients.

As a Project Manager you will be reporting directly to the Senior Project Manager, the role will see you leading and managing complex workstreams on infrastructure projects. This opportunity will enable you to shape the direction of our growing Project management team and be part of the senior team delivering a nationally significant portfolio of projects. You will drive innovation of our service delivery and provide mature programme and project management advice to the team and an integrated client.

Expectations of the role
  • Delivery of project obligations and internal performance
  • Delivery on time within cost and to stated standards
  • Ensure the embedding of sustainability principles
  • Effective management of health, safety and wellbeing of all those engaged on the project
  • Deliver within specified internal and client governance tolerances
  • Ensure the relevant safety management system has been employed
  • Manage expenditure, and overall out turn cost for the project including authorisation through specified governance.
  • Ensure effective communication and interfaces with the supply chain and procurement functions.
  • Be responsible for ensuring the change control process is followed including managing and recording all change to time, cost and quality.
  • Active stakeholder management to clarify requirements and agree project objectives and priorities. Maintain stakeholder involvement in key decisions.
  • Manage project risk and opportunities effectively - take responsibility for the identification, allocation and management of the project risk and opportunities, taking effective mitigation measures to reduce risk.
  • Drive the commercial objectives specific to the project - ensure necessary reporting & information is delivered on time, to the required standard.
  • Maintain excellent communications with the client and wider programme team.
  • Be responsible for the project programme. Work with multidisciplinary delivery teams to update the programme as required.
  • Ensure the effective and efficient close out of all projects.
Candidate Specification
  • Engineering and/or Project Management degree or relevant extensive experience in project management
  • Associate Membership of APM or PMI, or membership of Engineers Ireland.
  • Ideally chartered or working towards chartership (ChPP or similar)
  • Project management expertise
  • Experience of managing and leading project teams to successful outcomes, as well as mentoring or managing junior project managers
  • Full Driving Licence
  • Strong client and stakeholder relationship building skills
  • Effective communication, with clients, project team, business manager and other business units
  • High degree of commercial acumen and knowledge of planning and project controls
  • Experience of working with FIDIC, NEC or Public Works Contracts
