Job summary

KD Group, a leading Irish mechanical engineering contractor, is expanding its maintenance and facilities management division in Castlebar. The Project Manager will oversee technical, commercial and programme delivery of mechanical projects from pre-construction to handover and close-out.

The role focuses on medium to large-scale installations, lifecycle upgrades, and interim maintenance contracts, with responsibility for technical compliance and client expectations across projects.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role in mechanical/building services.
  • A Level 7 Honours Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Ability to lead teams and coordinate multiple workstreams.
  • Engage with suppliers and sub-contractors during contract delivery.
  • Strong knowledge of Irish/international building codes and standards.

Responsibilities

  • End-to-end delivery of mechanical projects including HVAC, plumbing, and related systems.
  • Manage projects from tender handover through construction to final account.
  • Act as technical authority on mechanical scope and BIM models.
  • Coordinate interfaces (BMS, electrical, AHUs) and ensure IFC coordination.
  • Develop commissioning strategies and manage handover documentation.

The Role:

The Project Manager is responsible for the technical, commercial and programme delivery of mechanical projects from pre-construction through commissioning, handover and close-out.

The role is predominantly project-focused, managing medium to large-scale mechanical installations, while also overseeing associated interim maintenance contracts, minor works and lifecycle upgrades arising from completed projects or retained clients.

The Project Manager holds full technical accountability for the mechanical scope, ensuring all systems are designed, installed, tested and commissioned in accordance with specifications, standards and client expectations.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

The main duties and responsibilities of the Project Manager are outlined as follows:

Project Delivery:
  • Full responsibility for the end-to-end delivery of mechanical projects including HVAC, plumbing, public health, process pipework and associated BMS interfaces. This may also include the delivery of builders works and electrical works if KD Group are delivering contracts as PSCS.
  • Manage projects from tender handover through construction, commissioning and final account
  • Act as the technical authority on assigned projects, ensuring compliance with:
    • Employer’s Requirements
    • Specifications, drawings and standards
    • Relevant Irish and international codes
  • Coordinate and manage system interfaces including:
    • BMS / Controls
    • Electrical interfaces
    • AC Systems
    • Specialist packaged plant (AHUs)
  • Manage minor works, remedials and lifecycle replacement projects
  • Ensure interim maintenance activities are technically compliant and commercially controlled
  • Plan, budget, and deliver project works within cost, time, and quality constraints.
  • Review, manage and approve all mechanical technical submittals including:
    • Control philosophies
    • BMS points lists and I/O schedules
  • Manage the production and review of coordinated drawings and BIM models
  • Ensure clash-free coordination with structural, architectural, electrical and sprinkler systems
  • Lead RFI processes with design teams and consultants
  • Drive value engineering and alternative technical proposals where appropriate
Commissioning and Handover:
  • Develop and manage commissioning strategies and programmes
  • Coordinate commissioning activities across:
    • HVAC systems
    • Heating Systems
    • Water services
    • Specialist process systems
    • BMS and controls
  • Review and approve:
    • Commissioning method statements
    • FAT and SAT documentation
    • Test scripts and performance verification records
    • Ensure full integration and functionality of BMS systems including graphics, alarms and trend logs

  • Oversee preparation and submission of:
    • O&M Manuals
    • Safety Files
    • As-Constructed drawings
    • Asset registers
Programme, Cost & Commercial Management:
  • Develop, manage and maintain detailed construction and commissioning programmes
  • Control project budgets, forecasts, cashflow and resource loading
  • Manage procurement of plant, materials and subcontract packages
  • Identify, price and manage variations and change control
  • Work closely with commercial teams to protect project margins and close out final accounts
Health, Safety & Compliance:
  • Ensure full compliance with:
    • Irish Health & Safety legislation
    • Company HSQE Management Systems
    • Project-specific risk assessments and method statements
  • Lead safety planning, toolbox talks and site coordination meetings
  • Ensure inspections, testing and QA records are completed and maintained
  • Promote a strong culture of safety and continuous improvement across all teams.
Leadership and Stakeholder Management:
  • Lead and mentor Engineers, Supervisors and site teams
  • Chair project progress meetings with clients, consultants and subcontractors
  • Act as primary client interface for technical and delivery matters
  • Support tender reviews, technical clarifications and project mobilisation
  • Identify and pursue new maintenance/projects and frameworks within commercial, public, and industrial sectors.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, ensuring repeat and referral business.
  • Collaborate with the senior management team to shape long-term maintenance/project strategy and offerings.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in a similar role, preferably in the mechanical engineering/building services industry.
  • Minimum of a Level 7 Honours Degree Mechanical Engineering and or Equivalent Experience
  • Ability to work as part of a team in project delivery and provide input at team meetings.
  • Ability to engage with suppliers and sub-contractors at procurement stage and in the delivery of their scope of supply during contract delivery.
  • Ability to lead teams and coordinate multiple workstreams.
  • Ability to use own initiative, problem solve and adjust as issues arise during project delivery.
  • Good working knowledge of MS packages such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong knowledge of Irish and international building codes and standards.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and project management skills.
