Job summary

Alstom in Dublin seeks an experienced Project Engineering Manager to oversee the technical scope of complex rail projects, ensuring delivery on quality, cost, and schedule commitments. You will coordinate multi-disciplinary teams and drive engineering governance to satisfy contractual requirements.

The role requires an engineering background with lifecycle project exposure, leadership of engineering teams, and flexibility to travel as needed.

Qualifications

  • Engineering background with full lifecycle project deployment.
  • Experience leading functional or hierarchical engineering teams.
  • Cost and planning control within engineering scope.
  • Customer relationship experience in contractual contexts.
  • Knowledge of rail markets (Urban/Mainline/F&M) is advantageous.
  • Flexibility to travel as required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical delivery of projects meeting customer requirements and acceptance criteria.
  • Coordinate multi-disciplinary engineering and construction activities.
  • Manage technical risks, change control, variations, and compliance.
  • Ensure solutions meet contractual, regulatory, and QCDP targets.
  • Lead project engineering teams; allocate work and monitor performance.
  • Chair technical reviews and Change Control Boards (CCB).
  • Oversee design, systems engineering, verification, and safety assurance.
  • Provide technical leadership to stakeholders including sourcing, installation, testing, and commissioning.
  • Drive continuous improvement and knowledge sharing across teams.
  • Promote safety, quality and collaboration across activities.

Your future role

As Project Engineering Manager, you will manage the technical contractual scope of the project ensuring its delivery according to the quality, cost, performance and scheduled commitment originally agreed and, if applicable, updated as a result of negotiated variation orders.

We’ll look to you for:
  • Lead the technical delivery of projects, ensuring customer requirements and acceptance criteria are met.
  • C oordinat e multi-disciplinary engineering and construction activities.
  • Manage technical risks, change control, variations, and technical compliance throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure solutions comply with contractual requirements, applicable regulations, and QCDP (Quality, Cost, Delivery & Performance) targets.
  • Lead project engineering teams, allocating work, monitoring performance, and driving engineering governance.
  • Chair technical reviews and Change Control Boards (CCB), supporting design decisions and issue resolution.
  • Oversee design, systems engineering, verification, validation, and safety assurance activities.
  • Provide technical leadership and support to project stakeholders including sourcing, installation, testing, commissioning, and warranty teams.
  • Drive continuous improvement, lessons learned, and knowledge sharing across engineering teams.
  • Promote a strong culture of safety, quality, and collaboration across all project activities.

  • Products and services knowledge on different market segments (Urban, Mainline, F&M)
  • Knowledge of Wayside and ETCS On-board Signalling Principles (based on UK or EU practice) is desirable
  • Membership of a recognised engineering institution (IRSE, Iet etc.) is desirable
  • Flexibility to travel when required
