Job summary

Nicholas O’Dwyer Ltd seeks a Project Engineer specialising in hydraulic modelling to support wastewater infrastructure projects. You will join the Wastewater team and contribute to model development, validation, and reporting for high-profile schemes.

The role requires strong analytical skills, proficiency in InfoWorks ICM (and MicroDrainage/Bentley), GIS capabilities, and the ability to work independently and within a team to meet project milestones.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in hydraulic modelling for wastewater and surface water systems.
  • Strong technical skills in hydraulic modelling software, ideally InfoWorks ICM, with experience in MicroDrainage and Bentley software.
  • Experience with InfoAsset; strong GIS knowledge with QGIS, MapInfo and ArcGIS.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to address complex issues.
  • Strong project management skills; ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work with clients, contractors, and regulators.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations; strong technical writing; ability to work independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

  • Provide hydraulic modelling and network analysis inputs to projects under the direction of senior engineers and project managers.
  • Develop, calibrate and verify hydraulic models using InfoWorks ICM and other tools.
  • Undertake hydraulic model assessments and contribute to optioneering and development of solutions for SWO and flooding non-compliance.
  • Assist with scoping, coordination and management of surveys and data collection for model development.
  • Prepare technical reports, modelling documentation, calculations and deliverables.
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams to deliver project requirements.
  • Provide guidance and support to graduate and junior engineers.
  • Participate in client and project team meetings and liaison.
  • Maintain and develop knowledge of hydraulic modelling software and industry standards.

About The Role

We are seeking a Project Engineer in hydraulic modelling of to support the technical delivery of wastewater infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will join our Wastewater team, which is rapidly expanding to meet the challenges associated with multiple interesting and high-profile projects.

Key Duties And Responsibilities
  • Provide hydraulic modelling and network analysis inputs to projects under the direction of senior engineers and project managers.
  • Develop, calibrate and verify hydraulic models using the latest InfoWorks ICM software, in accordance with relevant Client standards, including Uisce Éireann DAP standards.
  • Undertake hydraulic model assessments and contribute to the optioneering and development of solutions to address SWO and flooding non-compliance.
  • Assist with the scoping, coordination and management of surveys and data collection activities required to inform model development.
  • Prepare technical reports, modelling documentation, calculations and supporting deliverables.
  • Work collaboratively with senior engineers and multidisciplinary project teams to deliver project requirements.
  • Provide guidance and support to graduate and junior engineers, where appropriate.
  • Participate in client and project team meetings and support day-to-day client liaison.
  • Maintain and develop technical knowledge of hydraulic modelling software, industry standards and best practice.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as required, in line with the evolving needs of the role and the business.
Key Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, or a related field;
  • 5+ years of experience in hydraulic modelling for wastewater and surface water systems;
  • Strong technical skills in hydraulic modelling software ideally using InfoWorks ICM with experience with MicroDrainage and Bentley software;
  • Experienced in the use of InfoAsset;
  • Strong Geographic Information Systems (GIS) knowledge with experience in QGIS, MapInfo and ArcGIS;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and address complex issues;
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies;
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulations;
  • Strong technical writing skills; and
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
