Job summary

The Irish Wheelchair Association (IWA) invites applications for a 12-month fixed-term position as Programme Assistant/Driver with the Holiday Services in Ballinasloe. This 20-hour per week role provides personal and activity-based support to service users, helping them stay independent and engaged in the local community.

Applicants must hold a QQI Level 5 Major Award in Healthcare Support or equivalent, a full clean driving licence, and experience working with people with disabilities.

Qualifications

  • QQI Major Award Level 5 Healthcare Support or equivalent is essential.
  • QQI components include Health Service Skills and Care Provision Practice.
  • Other relevant QQI awards may apply as listed by IWA.
  • Full Clean Driving License is essential.

Job description

We would like to invite applications for the following 12 month fixed term position.

Programme Assistant/Driver, Holiday Services
Shearwater Hotel, Ballinasloe
20 hours a week, 12-Month Fixed Term

As a Programme Assistant/Driver you will be expected to provide personal and activity-based assistance to the service users of the Holiday Service in a way which enhances their independence, dignity, and self-esteem as members of the local community.

Training, Experience And Qualifications

Major Award in QQI level 5 in Healthcare Support or similar qualification is essential. QQI Major Awards that are deemed relevant to IWA are:

  • Community Health Services (to include minor components Safety Health at Work and Care Provision Practice)
  • Health Service Skills (to include minor components in Workplace Statutory Policies Procedures and Care Skills and Care Support)
  • Health Care Support (to include minor components Safety Health at Work and Care Skills and Care Support)

Full Clean Driving License is essential

Knowledge And Skills

Previous experience of working with people with disabilities is essential

Understanding of the social model of disability and the concepts of person centred planning an advantage
