Job summary

Sterling Engineering Ltd - Ireland & Europe is seeking an experienced Product Quality Engineer to join our product development team. You will influence design from concept through launch, ensuring quality, reliability and regulatory compliance across the lifecycle of complex electronic products.

You will collaborate with R&D, Quality, Production, Test Engineering and Purchasing to drive DFMEA, investigations, NPI support, and robust testing strategies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electronic, Electrical, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years' experience in a Quality Engineering or R&D role within a regulated industry.
• Strong understanding of product development, design controls, and lifecycle management.
• Experience with hardware/software integration and electronic product testing.
• Ability to interpret schematics, circuit designs, drawings, and specifications.
• Hands-on DFMEA, risk management, and root-cause analysis experience.
• Knowledge of embedded systems, firmware, or software development is desirable.
• Familiarity with ISO 9001 or similar quality systems.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with R&D to ensure designs meet quality, reliability, and regulatory requirements.
• Review schematics, PCB layouts, and hardware specs to identify design-related quality risks.
• Lead DFMEA and support design risk management activities.
• Drive root cause investigations for hardware and firmware issues using structured methods.
• Support verification and validation strategies during New Product Introduction (NPI).
• Analyse test data and generate statistical reports to improve quality.
• Provide quality oversight for hardware and software testing activities.
• Partner with Production, Test Engineering, and Process Quality to resolve issues.
• Support supplier and component approvals with Purchasing and R&D.
• Maintain traceability and compliance with quality systems and regulatory standards.
• Participate in design reviews and continuous improvement of quality processes.
• Assist with quality audits and regulatory inspections relating to design controls.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Product Quality Engineer to join an innovative engineering organisation developing complex electronic products within a regulated industry.

This is a cross-functional role where you'll work closely with R&D, Quality, Production, Test Engineering, and Purchasing to ensure products meet the highest standards of quality, reliability and compliance throughout the product lifecycle.

You will play a key role in influencing product design from concept through launch, supporting new product introduction (NPI) and providing technical expertise for sustaining engineering and production quality issues.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with R&D to ensure product designs meet quality, reliability, and regulatory requirements.
• Review electronic schematics, PCB layouts, and hardware specifications to identify design-related quality risks.
• Lead Design Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (DFMEA) and support design risk management activities.
• Drive root cause investigations for hardware and firmware-related product issues using structured problem-solving methodologies.
• Support product verification and validation strategies during New Product Introduction (NPI).
• Analyse parametric test data and generate statistical reports to support product quality improvements.
• Provide quality oversight for hardware and software testing activities.
• Partner with Production, Test Engineering, and Process Quality teams to resolve technical product issues.
• Support supplier and component approval processes alongside Purchasing and R&D.
• Maintain product traceability and ensure compliance with internal quality systems and applicable regulatory standards.
• Participate in design reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of product quality processes.
• Assist with quality audits and regulatory inspections relating to design controls.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Electronic, Electrical, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.

• Familiarity with ISO 9001 or comparable quality management systems.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.

Desirable Experience

• Experience in industries such as medical devices, aerospace, automotive, or life safety.
• Exposure to statistical analysis tools for engineering test data.
• Knowledge of NPI processes and design verification methodologies.
