Job summary

HERO Recruitment is seeking a Principal-level Sourcing/Procurement professional for a 12-month contract in Galway. The role involves strategic sourcing, supplier management, commercial negotiations and cost optimisation in a fast-paced, global environment.

The successful candidate will manage complex supplier relationships, lead negotiations and drive value improvements while coordinating with Procurement, Engineering and Operations across a regulated, technical industry.

Qualifications

• 8+ years' experience in procurement, sourcing or supply chain in manufacturing, engineering or medical devices.
• Strong experience managing strategic supplier relationships.
• Proven track record in commercial negotiation, cost reduction and value improvement.
• Experience in supply continuity, risk management and problem solving.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Experience managing significant strategic supplier spend ($50M+).
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or relevant technical background.

Responsibilities

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Principal-level Sourcing / Procurement professional for a 12-month contract with a leading global medical device organisation.

This is a senior, high-impact role, focused on strategic sourcing, supplier management, commercial negotiations, cost optimisation and supply continuity. The position offers the opportunity to operate independently in a fast-paced, global environment, with a comprehensive handover planned at the outset.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage strategic supplier relationships and escalations, ensuring supply continuity and effective issue resolution.
• Lead commercial and contract negotiations with key suppliers.
• Identify and mitigate supply, cost and operational risks across the supply base.
• Drive cost reduction and Value Improvement initiatives, optimising Total Cost of Ownership.
• Support cross-functional projects including new product development, sourcing and cost management.
• Develop and execute supplier strategies, balancing collaboration and competitive tension to maximise value.
• Partner closely with stakeholders across Procurement, Engineering, Operations and other functions.
• Monitor market intelligence, supplier trends and category developments to inform sourcing decisions.
• Support annual budgeting and resolution of significant supplier or systemic issues.

Requirements

• 8+ years' experience in procurement, sourcing or supply chain, ideally within manufacturing, engineering or medical devices (or similar industry).
• Strong experience managing strategic and complex supplier relationships.
• Proven track record in commercial negotiation, cost reduction and value improvement.
• Strong supply continuity, risk management and problem-solving capability.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Experience managing significant strategic supplier spend ($50M+).
• Ability to work independently and hit the ground running in a global sourcing environment.
• Level 8 Bachelor's degree required; Engineering or relevant technical background preferred.
