Job summary

A leading global engineering consultancy is seeking an experienced Process Engineer to support delivery of major pharmaceutical, biotechnology, life sciences and advanced manufacturing projects across Ireland. The role involves developing and delivering process engineering solutions from concept and FEED through detailed design, construction, commissioning and operational support.

You will work with clients, process specialists, vendors and other engineering disciplines.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Chemical, Process or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience in pharma/biotech or regulated industries.
  • Strong skills in PFDs, P&IDs, and process calculations.
  • Desirable: pharma/biopharma manufacturing experience.
  • Desirable: cleanrooms and controlled environments.
  • Desirable: Aspen/HYSYS or BIM experience.

Responsibilities

  • Develop process designs for pharma and life sciences facilities.
  • Create PFDs, P&IDs, mass and energy balances, specs.
  • Perform calculations, sizing, and hydraulic modelling.
  • Support FEED through detailed design and construction phases.
  • Ensure GMP/GxP and health, safety, and regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Support commissioning, qualification, and validation activities.

Process Engineer Life Sciences & Pharmaceutical Projects

About the Opportunity A leading global engineering consultancy is seeking an experienced Process Engineer to support the delivery of major pharmaceutical, biotechnology, life sciences and advanced manufacturing projects across Ireland. The Process Engineer will be responsible for developing and delivering process engineering solutions from concept and FEED through detailed design, construction, commissioning and operational support. You will work as part of multidisciplinary project teams and collaborate closely with clients, process specialists, equipment vendors and other engineering disciplines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliverprocess engineering designs for pharmaceutical and life sciences manufacturing facilities.
  • Prepare and reviewprocess flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), mass and energy balances and equipment specifications.
  • Perform process calculations, equipment sizing and hydraulic/process modelling.
  • Supportconcept design, feasibility studies, FEED and detailed design activities.
  • Develop process and utility systems for manufacturing facilities and associated infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, automation, civil, structural and other engineering disciplines to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Participate indesign reviews, HAZOP, risk assessments and technical safety reviews.
  • Ensure process designs comply with relevantGMP/GxP, health & safety, environmental and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare technical reports, design calculations, specifications, equipment datasheets and other engineering documentation.
  • Work with equipment suppliers and vendors to review technical submissions and ensure compliance with project requirements.
  • Provide technical support duringconstruction, commissioning, qualification and validation activities.
  • Troubleshoot process and engineering issues and support project teams in developing practical solutions.
  • Engage with clients and stakeholders to understand requirements and communicate technical solutions.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement, standardisation and development of engineering best practices.
Key Requirements
  • Degree inChemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Proven process engineering experience withinpharmaceutical, biotechnology, life sciences, advanced manufacturing or another highly regulated industry.
  • Strong experience withPFDs, P&IDs, process calculations, mass/energy balances and equipment sizing.
  • Experience working on projects from concept/FEED through detailed design and implementation.
  • Understanding ofGMP/GxP requirements and regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Experience participating inHAZOP, risk assessments and process safety reviews.
  • Strong understanding of process systems, utilities and manufacturing operations.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Strong technical documentation and communication skills.
  • Experience supportingcommissioning, qualification, validation or start-up activities is highly desirable.

  • Experience in one or more of the following would be advantageous: Pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical manufacturing

  • Experience withAspen HYSYS, Aspen Plus, AutoCAD or similar engineering software
  • Chartered Engineer status or progress towards professional accreditation
