Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree required.
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Assistant program.
• CSFA certification within the first year of hire.
• BLS Certification through the AHA or American Red Cross.
• Two years of peri-operative practice in an acute care facility.

Responsibilities

• Anticipate surgeon and team needs for the surgical procedure.
• Apply knowledge of OR procedures including attire, infection control and compliance.
• Prepare for procedures by performing safety checks and equipment review.
• Assist in surgery: retract tissue, maintain hemostasis, and use appropriate instruments.
• Ensure sterile field integrity, manage wound closure and drain placement as needed.
• Perform any other duties related to the surgical procedure as directed by the surgeon.

Education

Associate’s Degree

Graduate of an accredited Surgical Assistant program

CSFA certification within first year of hire

BLS Certification (AHA or Red Cross)

Two years peri-operative practice in an acute care facility
