Job summary

Medtronic plc in Galway, Ireland, seeks a Senior Principal Mechanical Design Engineer – Robotics Capital & Test Systems to lead mechanical architecture, fixtures, actuators and test equipment for advanced medical devices. You will design and review 3D models, ensure safety and reliability, and collaborate across test, controls, software and manufacturing teams to deliver repeatable, compliant solutions.

The role requires a strong track record in machine design, capital equipment and automation,

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field with 10+ years of experience, or Master’s degree with 8+ years of experience.
Senior-level experience in machine design, capital equipment, or test systems.
Strong capability in designing precision fixtures, actuators, and structures.
Hands-on CAD modelling using SolidWorks and/or Creo for large assemblies.
Knowledge of GD&T, materials, tolerancing, and manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

Lead mechanical architecture for capital equipment and test systems.
Design precision fixtures, mechanisms, actuators, load frames, and interfaces.
Create and review 3D models, assemblies, drawings, and BOMs in SolidWorks/Creo.
Integrate mechanical systems with motors, sensors, controls, and data acquisition.
Lead design reviews and troubleshoot multidisciplinary equipment issues.
