Tetra Tech Europe is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer based in Dublin, who will provide senior-level mechanical engineering expertise across projects, ensuring compliance with regulations and standards.
The successful candidate will manage significant mechanical work packages, take ownership of major project designs, and contribute to team growth. A degree in Mechanical Engineering and a minimum of 7 years of experience in relevant design roles are required.

As Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will provide senior-level mechanical engineering expertise across projects from concept through to handover. You will lead the development of mechanical design solutions, support technical decision‑making, and ensure all outputs meet relevant regulations, standards and best practice.
The role includes preparing feasibility studies incorporating EED principles, scheme design drawings and reports, detailed design packages, specifications, equipment data sheets, cost estimates, tender support, construction and commissioning/validation monitoring, and handover. You will work closely with clients, architects, project managers and internal teams to deliver high‑quality outcomes.
You will take ownership of significant mechanical work packages and contribute directly to the successful delivery of major projects valued from €1 million to €200 million. Your expertise will help shape robust, efficient design solutions, strengthen client relationships, and support the development of early‑career engineers. You will also have the opportunity to influence project leadership, contribute to team growth, and progress toward greater responsibility at Associate level.
Extensive experience in the design of mechanical systems for buildings, including heating, cooling, ventilation, public health and BMS. Strong technical judgement, with the ability to develop compliant, efficient solutions and apply Irish regulations, codes, standards and design safety principles.
Knowledge of thermal modelling software such as IES, mechanical design/c calculation software, and detailed calculation spreadsheets. Experience delivering projects in a BIM environment.
Proven track record in the design and coordination of mechanical building services engineering projects across commercial, industrial, infrastructure, pharmaceutical, educational, healthcare and residential sectors.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects while maintaining high‑quality outputs. Excellent communication, organisation and problem‑solving skills, with experience working effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
Ability to build strong working relationships with clients and project partners, while supporting, guiding and developing junior and early‑career engineers.
This role is based in Dublin, within a wider team operating across Dublin, Cork and Galway.
