Job summary

Rapid7 seeks a Principal AI Engineer to define the technical direction for LLMs and agentic AI across our security products. You will stay hands-on with the hardest problems, shaping architecture, tuning, training and deployment strategies while mentoring staff and driving cross-team collaboration.

You will lead workflow design, evaluation pipelines and best practices for context engineering, inference optimization, and scalable deployment to protect global customers.

Qualifications

• Extensive software or ML engineering background.
• Proven track record building production AI systems across teams.
• Strong understanding of transformer architectures and training flows.

Responsibilities

• Define architecture and roadmap for LLM and agentic AI across products.
• Lead model strategy: frontier vs open-source models and fine-tuning methods.
• Prototype, train, evaluate and deploy critical model/inference code.
• Mentor senior engineers and influence product and platform investments.
• Set engineering standards for context management and inference optimization.
