Job summary

The Irish Government Economic and Evaluation Service is seeking an Assistant Principal – Policy Analyst/Economist to contribute to policy analysis across departments. You will lead a small team, manage a work programme, brief senior officials and Ministers, and apply data and economic tools to inform evidence-based policy and spending decisions.

Strong initiative, ability to learn, and a broad interest in the economic and social environment are essential.

Qualifications

• IGEES Policy Analyst/Economist roles exist in every Government Department across various policy areas.

Responsibilities

• Contributing to national policy development across a wide range of areas;
• Managing a work programme of policy analysis and evaluation of public policy initiatives;
• Managing and developing graduate policy analyst/economist staff;
• Briefing and advising senior officials and Ministers;
• Using data and economic tools and techniques to conduct policy analysis and evaluation;
• Contributing to appraisals and evaluations of significant areas of expenditure in line with the Public Spending Code & Infrastructure Guidelines;
• Providing economic advice and guidance to support Government;
• Contributing to relevant internal and external conferences and events.
