Job summary

Wills Bros Group in Mayo invites an experienced Planner to join our civil engineering and infrastructure team. Based in Kiltimagh, you will develop robust project programmes reflecting scope, contract requirements and delivery strategy, supporting tender submissions, contract delivery and live project planning.

You will routinely use Microsoft Project or Primavera P6, build WBS and critical paths, assess resources and risks, and work closely with bid, engineering, construction and commercial

Qualifications

• Minimum 3–5 years' planning experience within construction, civil engineering or infrastructure projects.
• Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or related discipline preferable.
• Proven expertise in MS Project and/or Primavera P6.

Responsibilities

• Interpret project scope and develop efficient, compliant phasing strategy.
• Develop project programmes aligned with scope, contract requirements and delivery strategy.
• Prepare and maintain programmes using MS Project and/or Primavera P6.
• Develop WBS, build sequences, activity durations, logic links and critical path schedules.
• Embed construction methodology and phasing into programme sequencing and planning outputs.
• Assess resource requirements, productivity, programme constraints and risks.
• Produce programme deliverables including diagrams, histograms and lookahead plans.
• Prepare planning narratives communicating programme logic and milestones.
• Monitor progress against baselines and report delays, risks and mitigation actions.
• Identify opportunities to optimise programmes and improve sequencing.
• Collaborate with bid, engineering, construction, commercial and project teams.

The Role

As a Planner with Wills Bros, you will develop high-quality project programmes that reflect the project scope, contractual requirements and delivery strategy. You will support tender submissions, contract delivery and live project planning across civil engineering, transport infrastructure and construction projects.

Responsibilities:

• Interpret the project scope and develop an efficient, compliant phasing strategy.
• Develop project programmes aligned with project scope, contractual requirements and delivery strategy.
• Prepare and maintain programmes using Microsoft Project and/or Primavera P6.
• Develop robust Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), logical build sequences, activity durations, logic links and critical path schedules.
• Embed construction methodology, constructability and project phasing into programme sequencing and planning outputs.
• Assess resource requirements, productivity outputs, programme constraints and key delivery risks.
• Produce clear programme deliverables including timeline diagrams, resource histograms, phasing plans, lookahead programmes and tender-quality infographics.
• Prepare well-written planning narratives that clearly communicate programme logic, milestones, assumptions, constraints and delivery strategies.
• Monitor progress against baseline programmes and support reporting on delays, risks, opportunities and mitigation actions.
• Identify opportunities to optimise programmes, improve sequencing and support efficient project delivery.
• Work closely with bid, engineering, construction, commercial and project delivery teams.
• Support tender submissions, contract programmes, progress updates, client presentations and project review meetings.
• Ensure programmes are realistic, efficient and deliverable, while supporting Wills Bros quality and safety standards.

About You

We are interested in hearing from experienced Planners, Planning Engineers, Project Planners or construction professionals with strong programme management experience and the following skills and experience:

• A degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Project Management or a related discipline preferable.
• Minimum 3-5 years' planning experience within construction, civil engineering or infrastructure projects.
• Proven expertise in Microsoft Project and/or Primavera P6.
• Strong background in road infrastructure, rail infrastructure, energy, commercial or industrial construction projects.
• Strong understanding of construction methodologies, project phasing, resource planning, progress monitoring and programme optimisation.
• Ability to read and understand drawings, specifications, tender documents and construction information.
• Strong communication and writing skills, with the ability to prepare clear planning narratives and reports.
• Excellent organisation, attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with bid, engineering, construction, commercial and project teams.
• A practical, proactive and solutions-focused approach to planning and project delivery.
