Pharma Engineering Manager — API Operations & CI

Job summary

Team Horizon is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a team of engineers, technicians, and apprentices for a leading pharmaceutical company in Sligo. The role reports to the Operations Engineering Manager and focuses on API manufacturing support, budget management, and compliance with safety, quality, and finance policies.

You will drive cross-functional collaboration, establish department goals, assist with equipment development, and ensure maintenance meets regulatory and corporate standards

Qualifications

• Degree (Level 7 or above) in engineering or scientific area (Chemistry) is required.
• Minimum of 6 years in the pharmaceutical industry with at least 2 years in an Engineering Supervisor role.
• Experience with glass-lined vessels, reactors, pumps, heat exchangers, ATEX, solvent handling.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to make prompt decisions on engineering issues.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a team of engineers, technicians, and apprentices.
• Own budget management and liaise with production to ensure policy compliance in Personnel, Quality, Engineering, Safety and Finance.
• Collaborate with contract maintenance providers, production, quality, and others to maximize equipment performance on multiple projects.
• Set department goals, schedules, and timetables in coordination with the Operations Engineering Manager.
• Support equipment development and ensure manufacturing equipment complies with legal and corporate standards.
• Prepare CAPA plans and implement timelines; drive investigations to improve plant downtime and yield.
• Develop monthly engineering metrics and provide timely management reports.
• Manage budgets and capital expenditure requests; support audits (external, division, corporate).
• Ensure safety standards and safe working practices are followed; manage internal and external plant projects and contractor relationships.
