Job summary

People USA in Kingston, NY is seeking a Per Diem Certified Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) to provide direct services to individuals and families at the Ulster County Crisis Support Center. The role includes assessments, treatment planning, discharge planning, and crisis intervention within a 24/7/365 walk-in hub.

The CASAC will work with an interdisciplinary team, addressing referrals, coordinating services, and ensuring high-quality records and compliance with 42 CFR HIPAA

Qualifications

• Two years of relevant experience in counseling or crisis support.
• Knowledge of electronic medical records and HIPAA/privacy basics.
• Familiarity with community resources and referral processes.
• Ability to pass background checks and possess a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Addresses referrals from community providers and warm hand-offs.
• Coordinate services and referrals for guests leaving the Center.
• Provide care collaboration, advocacy, and therapy to guests and families.
• Collaborate with guests, providers, and external partners.
• Demonstrate cultural competency and commitment to guests.
• Participate in assessment screenings and discharge planning.
• Maintain accurate guest records and comply with HIPAA.
• Provide crisis intervention and referrals to mental health and substance use services.
