Job summary

Children’s Health Ireland seeks a Clinical Nurse Specialist to support children with complex airway needs, ensuring safe inpatient care and timely discharge while coordinating across hospital and community services. Qualifications

• Registered in General/Children’s Division of the NMBI, or entitled to be registered.
• Minimum 5 years post-registration experience, with at least 2 years in Acute Medical/Surgical or Day Services.
• Ability to discharge responsibilities with clinical, managerial and administrative capacity.
• Post-registration programme or QQI/NFQ Level 9+ relevant to ENT nursing, or evidence of 60 ECTS or equivalent.
• Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
• Ability to practice safely within scope of practice.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe, effective care for children with complex airway needs, supporting inpatient care and early discharge.
• Coordinate care across hospital and community services in collaboration with paediatric consultants and multidisciplinary teams.
• Train and support parents, carers, staff, students and other professionals on airway management, suctioning and emergency procedures.
• Contribute to respiratory clinics, participate in research trials and help develop policies and guidelines for paediatric airway care.
• Be a key contact for families with tracheostomies and advocate for individual child needs while ensuring confidentiality.
