Job summary

UPMC Ireland is seeking a Clerical Officer – Admissions at the UPMC Sports Surgery Clinic in Dublin to ensure the smooth running of the Admissions Department from first contact to handover to clinical colleagues.

You will welcome patients and families, verify identities and records, manage insurance documentation, and handle switchboard duties, with a focus on accuracy, privacy, and a seamless patient experience in a busy hospital environment.

Qualifications

• Accurate data entry and keyboard skills.
• Previous experience in acute/clinical setting desirable.
• Self-directed with ability to work independently.
• Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
• Fluent written and spoken English.

Responsibilities

• Welcomes patients and families and delivers excellent admissions administration.
• Verifies patient identity and matches wristband, medical record, and computer records.
• Ensures insurance paperwork is accurate, signed, and processed; handles excess payments.
• Rotates between reception, admissions, and operations including scheduling.
• Answers switchboard calls professionally and according to policy.
• Maintains confidentiality and privacy of patients and records.
• Communicates changes to theatre lists and coordinates with multidisciplinary teams.
• Prepares charts for the following day and files letters in charts.
