Job summary

HSE West North West requires a Medical Laboratory Aide to assist with the preparation of clinical specimens for analysis under supervision. The role emphasizes precise adherence to SOPs, GLP guidance, and safety procedures to support patient care in the hospital pathology laboratory.

Responsibilities include handling specimens, managing the Laboratory Information System, maintaining equipment, and supporting senior staff while ensuring cleanliness, accuracy and confidentiality in all tasks.

Qualifications

• Experience with computers and Laboratory Information Systems is preferred.
• Ability to follow established procedures accurately and safely.
• Willingness to participate in training and development.

Responsibilities

• Receive specimens into the laboratory and log into the Laboratory Information System.
• Sort, identify, prioritise and prepare specimens for analysis.
• Maintain and rotate equipment in the designated work area as required.
• Disseminate goods inwards and perform stock rotation and inventory checks.
• Prepare specimens for dispatch to external referral laboratories per SOPs.
• Ensure correct disposal of specimens and waste materials.
• Keep work areas tidy and maintain clean benches and sinks.
• Support Medical Scientists and senior staff as needed.
• Adhere to GDPR, confidentiality and hospital policies.
