Job summary

Affidea Ireland is seeking an experienced Radiographer Aide to join our Letterkenny team on a part-time basis. You will support MRI, ultrasound and patient care across the clinic, ensuring comfort, safety and a smooth patient journey throughout the visit.

Responsibilities include greeting patients, assisting transfers and positioning, room preparation, reception duties, infection prevention, and helping radiographers with scans.

Qualifications

  • Essential: Leaving Certificate or equivalent.
  • Strong customer-facing skills; clear verbal and written English; basic IT literacy (MS Office).
  • Desirable: QQI/FETAC Level 5 Health Care-related major award (e.g., Healthcare Support / Health Service Skills) or equivalent; Certificates in Manual Handling, Basic Life Support, Fire Safety; experience in a hospital/clinic or care environment.
  • Prior exposure to Ultrasound/CT/MRI settings.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Radiographers with placing and removing coils and patient positioning (MRI).
  • Prepare US room, assist patients on/off couch, chaperone during scans.

  • Uphold Infection Prevention & Control, JCI hygiene standards and International Patient Safety Goals.
  • Stock, housekeeping and logistics: restock consumables, waste management.
  • Support new staff orientation and mandatory training.

We are now seeking an experienced Radiographer Aide to join our team in Affidea - Letterkenny on a part time basis.

Patient-Facing Support & Chaperoning
  • Greet patients, verify identity at every encounter, explain what to expect, and provide empathetic support throughout the visit.
  • Assist with safe patient transfers and positioning using approved manual-handling techniques; remain with and monitor patients who require supervision; promptly elevate concerns to the supervising Radiographer.
  • Support basic comfort needs and keep patients informed about delays and next steps.
MRI Support
  • Assist with patient changing, transfers, comfort and communication; restock consumables and support questionnaire pre-checks as directed.
  • Assist the Radiographers in placing and removing coils, and patient positioning.
Ultrasound (US) Support
  • Prepare the US room, ensure consumables are stocked, assist patients on/off the couch, and chaperone during scans as requested.
  • Handle routine cleaning between patients and perform high-level disinfection of probes following training, local SOPs and traceability requirements.
  • Confirm patient arrival on RIS and help manage the day list and follow-ups as directed.
Reception & Administration
  • Provide reception/admin cover as needed to include scheduling/booking, and next-day list checks; handling queries and escalating clinical questions appropriately.
Quality, Safety & Infection Prevention
  • Uphold Infection Prevention & Control, JCI hygiene standards and International Patient Safety Goals.
  • Follow local MRI safety rules in the MRI department.
  • Participate in audits, stock checks, equipment cleaning logs and room turnaround standards; report incidents/near misses promptly.
Stock, Housekeeping & Logistics
  • Keep clinical and non-clinical areas tidy and ready; restock consumables; manage waste streams correctly (incl. sharps/clinical waste).
Professional Conduct & Development
  • Maintain confidentiality and data protection; use PPE and follow manual/patient handling training.
  • Support new staff orientation when asked; complete mandatory training and keep competencies up to date (e.g., BLS, manual handling, fire etc.).
