Job summary

Bloomberg is seeking a Database Platform Engineer to own the Oracle platform lifecycle across on-prem and hybrid environments in the DL+ data stack. You will drive performance tuning, backups, HA and RI, while enabling self-service via IaC and CI/CD tools.

The role includes supporting PostgreSQL and Elasticsearch/OpenSearch/Solr adjacent platforms, with migration planning and robust security practices. You'll work with Linux, Python and scripting, building reliable services, dashboards and p0–p3

Qualifications

• Substantial hands-on experience operating Oracle databases in production environments.
• Strong Oracle architecture and lifecycle knowledge including HA, backup/recovery, patching and upgrades.
• Production experience with PostgreSQL or Elasticsearch/OpenSearch/Solr.
• Strong Linux fundamentals (RHEL) and I/O troubleshooting.
• Proficiency in Python, Bash or similar with automation using Ansible/Terraform.
• Experience with Git-based change control and CI/CD, monitoring and operational docs.
• Reliability mindset: incident response, root-cause analysis and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Own the Oracle platform lifecycle across on-premise and hybrid environments.
• Engineer for performance and scale with query optimization and indexing.
• Build resilience and recoverability: backups, replication, HA, DR, RPO/RTO.
• Automate and enable self-service using IaC and CI/CD workflows.
• Support adjacent data technologies (PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch/Solr) while keeping Oracle primary.
• Lead migrations and platform changes with validation and rollback plans.
• Instrument and secure the service with dashboards, alerts, baselines and policies.
• Improve reliability through incident response and cross-team collaboration.
