Job summary
Canonical, the company behind Ubuntu, is seeking a Ubuntu Software Engineer based in Ireland. You will design, build, test, and ship foundational systems software, packaging open source components for Ubuntu repositories, and collaborating across a globally distributed engineering organization.
You will work with Rust, Go, Python, Flutter, or C/C++, and engage in upstream contributions, documentation, and mentoring.
Qualifications
- 2–4 years of professional software engineering experience.
- Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or related discipline.
- Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
- Significant hands-on experience with at least one of Rust, Go, Python, Flutter, or C/C++.
- Genuine passion for open source software and contributing to large projects.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and ship foundational systems software and applications.
- Package and upload open source software to Ubuntu repositories using Debian/Snap packaging.
- Engineer integrations across the software stack from core system components to cloud deployments.
- Build and maintain automation infrastructure for building, testing, and shipping Ubuntu.
- Contribute to Linux distribution maintenance, documentation, and community engagement.
