Job summary

Duffy Alexander Recruitment is seeking a compassionate Registered General Nurse to join General Practices across Cork and Kerry. You will deliver safe, evidence-based nursing care, support prevention and health promotion, and work closely with GPs and a multidisciplinary team to meet patient needs.

The role covers vaccinations, phlebotomy, wound care, ECGs, chronic disease management and patient education, with emphasis on clinical judgement, accurate documentation and safeguarding.

Qualifications

  • Current registration as an RGN with the NMBI.
  • Post-registration nursing experience in general practice, primary care or community settings desirable.
  • Competence in immunisation, phlebotomy, wound care, ECGs and chronic disease management.
  • Strong clinical judgement, documentation and escalation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality nursing assessment, treatment, advice and follow-up within scope of practice.
  • Support chronic disease management and long-term condition reviews.
  • Administer vaccinations and injections safely per policy and guidelines.
  • Undertake routine procedures: phlebotomy, wound care, ECGs and health checks.
  • Promote preventive healthcare and health promotion activities.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential clinical records and contribute to audits.
  • Collaborate with GPs and the multidisciplinary team and ensure safe referrals.
  • Assist with vaccine cold-chain management and a safe treatment environment.

Job Description

We are currently assisting General Practices/Family Medicine clinics in Cork and Kerry who are seeking compassionate and clinically confident Registered Nurses. The successful candidate will provide safe, evidence-based nursing care across the patient life course, support prevention and health promotion, and work closely with GPs and the wider multidisciplinary team.

Key responsibilities:
  • Provide high-quality nursing assessment, treatment, advice and follow-up within professional scope of practice.
  • Support chronic disease management and long-term condition reviews, including monitoring, education, care planning and escalation where required.
  • Administer vaccinations and injections safely, including appropriate checks, documentation, observation and emergency readiness in line with practice policy and current national guidance.
  • Undertake routine clinical procedures such as phlebotomy, wound care and dressings, ECGs, health checks and other services appropriate to the practice skill mix.
  • Support preventive healthcare, screening and health promotion, including relevant women's and men's health services and cervical screening where trained and authorised.
  • Provide patient education and self-management support, promoting healthy lifestyles, adherence and appropriate use of primary care services.
  • Maintain accurate, timely and confidential clinical records and contribute to audit, quality improvement, infection prevention and governance activities.
  • Work collaboratively with GPs, practice staff and community services, communicating concerns promptly and contributing to safe referral and care pathways.
  • Help maintain clinical supplies, equipment and vaccine cold-chain processes, and contribute to a safe, organised treatment environment.
Key requirements:
  • Current registration as a Registered General Nurse (RGN) with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI)
  • Relevant post-registration nursing experience; experience in general practice, primary care, community nursing or a closely related setting is desirable
  • Competence, or willingness to complete training, in core practice-nursing activities such as immunisation, phlebotomy, wound care, ECGs, screening and chronic disease management
  • Strong clinical judgement, patient assessment, documentation and escalation skills, with a clear understanding of professional scope and accountability
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a calm, respectful and inclusive approach to patients of all ages and backgrounds
  • Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a multidisciplinary team and adapting to a varied primary-care workload
  • Commitment to continuing professional development, evidence-based practice, safeguarding, infection prevention and patient confidentiality.
  • IT literacy and confidence using electronic health-record / practice-management systems; experience with HealthOne or a comparable system is an advantage.
  • Interested in working in Cork or Kerry
