Job summary

Dublin Simon Community is seeking a Night Support Worker for the Outreach team based at Harcourt Street, Dublin. The role focuses on coordinating sleeping bag provisions for rough sleepers and guiding clients to available services and accommodation with strong emphasis on safety and reporting.

You will collaborate with external agencies, maintain data records, and support daily operations while upholding safeguarding policies and delivering compassionate care during night shifts.

Qualifications

• NFQ level 7 qualification in a relevant field and 6 months relevant experience
• NFQ level 6 qualification in a relevant field and 1 year relevant experience
• NFQ Level 5 qualification in health, community, or social care and 2 years relevant experience, including residential
• Full Irish Driving Licence
• Understanding of why people become homeless and the needs they have
• Understanding of the issues around drug and alcohol misuse, related health issues and relapse prevention
• Record keeping, report writing
• IT skills including Microsoft, Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook
• Client-focused, adaptable, accountable, resilient individual.
• Excellent communicator, with the ability to advocate on the client's behalf.
• Ability to manage challenging behaviour, whilst being respectful and professional

Responsibilities

• Take the lead on the provision of sleeping bags to clients who are rough sleeping
• Offering advice and signposting to services for clients who are availing of sleeping bags
• Supporting clients to establish pathways to engage with the Outreach team and emergency accommodation providers as appropriate
• Accurate recording of data on PASS system, Salesforce and SharePoint etc.
• Liaising with CPS, DRHE and Outreach team on a nightly basis and completing relevant reports and paperwork for all parties as required
• Ensuring there is a supply of sleeping bags available in the service and implementing an ordering process, along with the Outreach Manager
• Provide accurate and consistent handovers with the Outreach team and ensuring frequent communication with the service Management and Staff.
• Liaising with all external stakeholders to support the well-being of the client, such as methadone prescribers, GPs, Mental health teams etc. Establish a positive working relationship with Safety Net with particular emphasis on clients who utilise the Mobile Health Unit
• Support the project/key workers and management of Harcourt Street in the implementation of operational and strategic goals.
• Provide care interventions and daily living skills support including laundry, cleaning, etc.
• Conduct harm reduction interventions; overdose prevention, stabilisation.
• Therapeutic and diversionary interventions providing emotional and motivational support, promoting positive mental health attitudes, self-esteem and self-respect
• Ensure consistent handovers, diary, incident reports and follow-ups are completed, in accordance with organisation policies.
• Attend Team Meeting and Case Review meetings
• Have an awareness of Safeguarding Policies and protocols for vulnerable adults and children and compete report forms if necessary

About the job

As a Night Support Worker with the Outreach team, you will be based in Harcourt Street STA (subject to change) and the primary purpose of your role will be to co-ordinate the provision of sleeping bags to clients who are sleeping rough, along with offering guidance and signposting to the clients who are availing of this service. This role is vital in establishing a connection between supporting clients rough sleeping at night, and the work of the Outreach team that is carried out during the day. There will be a significant amount of inter-agency collaboration required for this role, therefore excellent communication skills will be required. You will work as a member of the Outreach team and will be involved in discussions, planning and initiatives to help have a positive impact on the lives of the clients that you are supporting.

In addition to this, as you will be based in Harcourt Street STA, you will be expected to support staff on site with managing incidents and ensuring health and safety at all times. This role will also involve supporting staff with carrying out operational tasks and duties when you are on shift. As a Night Support Worker you’ll ensure effective and consistent best practice standards are followed in the Dublin Simon Community accommodation services. As well as our induction program, you will be provided with one week’s training and development before you commence in the role. You’ll report to the Outreach Service Manager and will have support from the Harcourt Street Service Manager and Night Supervisor.

Contract Type – Full time Permanent

Working Hours – 7 day liability Monday - Sunday

Shifts will be 22:00-08:00/ or 21:00-08:30 and will average at 37.5 Hours per week.

Salary Depending on experience - Range of €33,500 - €35,250
