Job summary

RCSI - Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland is seeking a Research Assistant to support in vivo studies of gene therapies in preclinical mouse models. The role involves animal husbandry, colony management, drug treatments, behavioural assays, and histological analyses.

The successful candidate will hold a BSc or MSc in neuroscience or a related field and should have completed LAST Ireland training, with strong organization and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in neuroscience or a relevant discipline.
• Completed LAST Ireland training courses.
• General lab experience; molecular biology and/or neuroscience research experience would be an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Assist with animal-based activities: manage mouse colonies and genotyping.
• Support in vivo research on epilepsy mechanisms and treatments in animal models.
• Analyze data and maintain datasets; prepare and present reports.
• Carry out animal work in compliance with HPRA, EPA and RCSI Ethics policies.
• Coordinate security and maintenance for animal research facilities and perform risk assessments.
• Liaise with MRTF, BRF and Physiology Dept; adapt to flexible hours as research needs require.
