Job summary

The Naval Service of the Irish Defence Forces is seeking an Engine Room Artificer (Maintenance Engineer / Technician) to join its onboard maintenance team. After training, you will operate, maintain and repair ship engines and power systems to keep the fleet moving at sea.

Applicants must be aged 18 to 39 on the date of application and will be required to complete military training. National equivalents of the listed qualifications are accepted.

Qualifications

• Completion of one of the listed qualifications is required.
• Must meet age criteria: 18 years or older and under 39 years on date of application.
• National equivalent qualifications are acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Operate, maintain, and repair ship engines and power systems to keep vessels operational at sea.

FAS/Solas Standard Based Craft of Mechanical Automation & Maintenance Fitting

FAS/Solas Standard Based Crafts of Motor Mechanic

Department of Marine & Natural Resources EOOW Certificate of Competency

National equivalent of any of the above

Naval Service Engine Room Artificer [Maintenance Engineer / Technician]

An Engine Room Artificer (ERA) in the Naval Services operates, maintains, and repairs ship engines and power systems, keeping the ship moving and powered at sea.

The Naval Service is the maritime component of the Defence Forces with a support base and headquarters located in the Naval Base Haulbowline, Co. Cork. We are now accepting applications for positions as Engine Room Artificer Technicians (Marine/Mechanical) who will, after full military and on-the-job training, become an integral part of the maintenance team providing technical support on board a fleet of nine ships. A candidate for enlistment as an Engine Room Artificer must have completed one of the following:

• HETAC Level 7 Degree in Marine Engineering
• HETAC Level 7 Degree in Mechanical Engineering
• FAS/Solas Standard Based Craft of Mechanical Automation & Maintenance Fitting
• FAS/Solas Standard Based Craft of Diesel Fitter
• FAS/Solas Standard Based Crafts of Motor Mechanic
• Department of Marine & Natural Resources Engineer Officer of the Watch (EOOW) Certificate of Competency
• National equivalent of any of the above.
