Job summary

The Defence Forces seek qualified Maintenance Engineers and Technicians to join as Direct Entry Engine Room Artificers (ERAs) at Naval Service bases, including Cork. You’ll maintain propulsion, power generation and auxiliary systems, with duties spanning preventative and corrective maintenance, fault diagnosis, and emergency response at sea.

Role requires mechanical and electrical expertise, ability to work under pressure in a maritime setting, and adherence to safety and documentation

Qualifications

• HETAC Level 7 in Marine or Mechanical Engineering as required qualifications.
• QQI Advanced Certificate Craft in Mechanical Automation & Maintenance Fitting.
• QQI Advanced Certificate Craft in Motor Mechanics.
• Department of Marine & Natural Resources EOOW Certificate of Competency.
• Applicants must be 18–39 years old and meet height, health and permit requirements.

Responsibilities

• Maintain propulsion, power generation and auxiliary machinery.
• Conduct planned maintenance and defect rectification on propulsion and electrical systems.
• Diagnose faults and perform troubleshooting to ensure continuous operation.
• Assist in emergency response, including firefighting and damage control.
• Document maintenance, repairs and parts with accurate records.
