Job summary

The Molecular Microbiology Laboratory at CHI Crumlin conducts real-time PCR and serology and acts as the National Reference Laboratory for Pertussis. The post holder will deliver a quality molecular microbiology service in line with ISO 15189 and will perform real-time PCR diagnostics and serology on routine specimens, plus bacterial isolate work related to the Reference laboratory.

Applicants should have an Honours degree in Biomedical Science or Molecular Biology and relevant laboratory

Qualifications

• Bachelor in Science (Applied Science) Honours degree (Biomedical option) or equivalent.
• Honours degree in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, or Biomedical Science for Molecular Scientist.
• Clinical molecular or microbiology laboratory experience desired.
• At least 6 months practical PCR experience.
• Must meet pre-employment and mandatory training requirements.

Responsibilities

• Perform real-time PCR diagnostics and serological analysis of routine specimens.
• Conduct bacterial isolate work for the Reference laboratory function.
• Assist in running the routine molecular microbiology service and related duties as directed by the Chief Medical Scientist.
• Ensure compliance with ISO 15189 and quality standards.
