Job summary

Highfield Healthcare Mental Health Services is seeking an experienced Staff Nurse who will work within the nursing team to deliver high-quality care under the direction of the Clinical Nurse Manager and Director of Nursing.

The post requires an active NMBI PIN, registration in Ireland, and flexibility to cover day and night shifts. Staff will participate in orientation, mentorship, and ongoing professional development within a multidisciplinary team.

Working Hours and Location

Staff appointed are employed by Highfield Healthcare Mental Health Services and can be assigned throughout the service.

Shift Work which involves 7 x 12 hour shifts per fortnight, including Day and Night shifts for full-time staff in the units attached to the Approved Centre Reporting Relationship.

The post holder reports to the respective Clinical Nurse Manager in their immediate assigned location and is ultimately accountable to the Director of Nursing.

Role Summary

The staff nurse works as part of the nursing team and is responsible for maintaining and delivering a high standard of nursing care under the direction of the Clinical Nurse Manager and Director of Nursing.

The nurse will be expected at all times to maintain a high standard of professional practice and ethical responsibility while continuously developing their clinical expertise, leadership and teaching skills.

Nursing practice will be guided in accordance with the standards and professional codes as outlined by Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI), the Mental Health Act 2002 and the Regulations and Codes outlined by the Mental Health Commission.

• Participate in the planning and implementation of orientation and teaching programmes both for undergraduate students and other health care staff in the clinical setting
• Complete all mandatory training as deemed necessary by the Director of Nursing and Bord Altranais agus Cnimhseachais na hireann (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland).
• Act as a mentor, preceptor or clinical assessor for undergraduate nursing staff or staff undertaking adaptation programmes in the clinical environment
• Participate in the induction of new staff in the clinical area
• Participate in training as required to meet the ongoing needs for the care of the patient in order to comply with standards of care
• Take responsibility for own learning and development needs and actively contribute to the learning and development of the interdisciplinary team.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must:

• Be authorised to work in Ireland - no work permits will be issued for this role
• Be registered on the Psychiatric Division of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
• Have the clinical and administrative capacity to properly discharge the functions of the role.
• Maintain annual registration with NMBI
• Be flexible in relation to work pattern
• Have a clear, open and friendly communication style with the ability to respond quickly and appropriately across a variety of situations
• Have excellent communication and organizational skills
• Have a clear commitment to person-centred care and strong interpersonal skills
• Have fluent spoken and written English
• Be familiar with Mental Health Services in Ireland.
