Job summary

Blackrock Health Galway Clinic is seeking an on-site Laboratory Assistant in Galway. You will support laboratory staff with prep work, handle specimens, record data, and help maintain equipment and supplies. The role requires accuracy, teamwork and a professional approach.

Responsibilities

• Assist laboratory staff with preparation work for tests.
• Prepare and use equipment as directed by staff.
• Receive and record specimens, ensuring correct matching with forms.
• File and store samples and maintain records.
• Dispatch and deliver specimens, reports and samples as required.
• Prepare, collect and dispose of laboratory waste as needed.
• Clean laboratory and equipment as required.
• Monitor stocks and report shortages.
• Assist with filing specimens and slides.
• Take, record and deliver phone messages as required.
• Record data on the laboratory computer system (patient data entry, labels, worksheets).
• Carry out other duties as assigned by the hospital.

The Role:

• Assist laboratory staff with the preparation work for tests.
• Prepare and use equipment as directed by appropriate scientific/ technical laboratory staff.
• Receive and record specimens, ensuring that samples and request forms are correctly matched.
• File and store samples as required and maintain records.
• Dispatch and delivery of specimens, reports and samples as required.
• Prepare, collect and dispose of laboratory waste, excess tissue etc.
• Cleaning of laboratory and laboratory equipment as required.
• Monitoring of supplies stocks.Reporting stock shortages to senior laboratory staff and requesting stocks as appropriate.
• Assisting with filing specimens, slides etc.
• Taking, recording and delivering phone messages as required.
• Recording of data on the laboratory/hospital computer system to include: patient data entry; production of bar-coded labels; preparation of worksheets, etc.
• Other appropriate duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Hospital.

The Candidate:
