Job summary

DataAnnotation is seeking a Medical Coder to evaluate AI coding output against guidelines and documentation, and to author assignments a careful auditor would sign off on.

You will test coding prompts (ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS), review AI results for wrong codes or missing edits, and write the correct coding tied to documentation and current guidelines. This is a fully remote, flexible role with project-based work and strong earning potential.

Qualifications

• Hands-on medical coding experience with ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS.
• Credential such as CPC or CCS preferred.
• Clear written English: explanations are training signals.

Overview

Models assign codes that look right and bill wrong: an ICD-10-CM code one notch short on specificity, a CPT modifier that changes the whole claim, an NCCI edit ignored, an E&M level the note never supported. A single miscode is the difference between a clean claim and a denial or an audit finding, and a certified coder is who catches it.

As a Medical Coder you'll evaluate AI coding output against real guidelines and the underlying documentation, and write the assignments a careful auditor would sign off on.

What you’ll actually do

• Write prompts that test coding accuracy: ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS assignment, modifiers, and E&M leveling from real clinical documentation.


• Review AI output for wrong or unspecified codes, bad modifiers, missed NCCI edits, and codes the note does not support, and rate the reasoning.


• Write the correct coding when the model falls short, tied to the documentation and current guidelines.

Compensation

Up to $125+/hr depending on task difficulty and specialization. Many contributors add $100k-$200k a year; some make it their full-time income.
