Job summary

RecruitmentPlus on behalf of a leading engineering organisation in water and wastewater solutions seeks a Mechanical Project Manager in Co. Louth. The role centers on delivering mechanical works within major water infrastructure projects from design through handover.

You will lead teams, coordinate with clients and subcontractors, and ensure safety, quality and schedule compliance using Microsoft Project and MS Office tools. A Level 8 degree and 5+ years' experience are required.

Qualifications

  • Around 5+ years experience in a similar role within water/wastewater.
  • Level 8 Honours Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Science or Chemistry.
  • Knowledge of Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations 2013.
  • Certificate in Managing Safely for Construction Managers preferable but not essential.
  • Experienced in mechanical engineering works.
  • Ability to engage with customers, suppliers and subcontractors in financial negotiations and final accounts.
  • Proficient in programme management software (Microsoft Project).
  • Ability to prepare baseline programmes and updates.
  • MS Office proficiency including Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Strong communication skills and motivation.
  • Hold a Full Driving Licence.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the mechanical scope of wastewater and water infrastructure projects from design through installation, commissioning, and handover.
  • Work collaboratively as part of an integrated project delivery team to promote a one-team culture.
  • Plan, coordinate and execute all mechanical works for wastewater treatment plants, pumping stations, pipelines, and process installations.
  • Ensure Health, Safety, Environmental and Sustainability standards and regulatory obligations are followed.
  • Coordinate with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers and regulatory stakeholders.
  • Manage mechanical subcontractors and direct labour to meet safety, quality, schedule and budget.
  • Oversee installation and integration of pumps, piping, valves, and related equipment.
  • Interface with electrical, ICA, process, and civil teams for coordination.
  • Monitor progress, mitigate delays and keep delivery targets.
  • Mentor team members and support pre-construction activities.

Requirements
  • Around 5+ years experience in a similar role, within water/wastewater is a bonus.
  • Hold a level 8 Honours Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Environmental Science or Chemistry with extensive industry experience.
  • Extensive working knowledge of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations 2013.
  • Holder of a certificate in Managing Safely for Construction Managers preferable but not essential.
  • Experienced in Mechanical engineering works
  • Ability to engage with the customer as well as suppliers and sub-contractors in financial negotiations and final account agreements.
  • Good working knowledge of programme management software such as Microsoft Project.
  • Ability to prepare baseline programmes and programme updates.
  • Ability to use own initiative, problem solve and adjust as issues arise during project delivery.
  • Working knowledge of MS packages such as Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
  • Strong communication skills with a high level of motivation.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the mechanical scope of wastewater and water infrastructure projects from design coordination through installation, commissioning, and final handover.
  • Work collaboratively as part of an integrated project delivery team, promoting a one team culture.
  • Take responsibility for the planning, coordination, and execution of all mechanical works associated with wastewater treatment plants, pumping stations, pipelines, and process installations.
  • Ensure all Health, Safety, Environmental and Sustainability standards, company procedures, and statutory obligations are implemented and maintained across all project activities and live sites.
  • Coordinate closely with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and regulatory stakeholders.
  • Manage mechanical subcontractors and direct labour to ensure works are completed safely, efficiently, to specification, and in accordance with project programme requirements.
  • Oversee the installation and integration of mechanical process equipment including pumps, blowers, screens, pipework, valves, chemical dosing systems, tanks, HVAC systems, odour control systems, and associated plant equipment.
  • Liaise closely with electrical, ICA, process, and civil teams to ensure effective coordination and interface management throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Monitor project progress against programme, identify potential delays or risks, and implement mitigation measures to maintain delivery targets.
  • Ensure best practice construction management methodologies are adopted, including Lean Construction and collaborative planning techniques such as Last Planner.
  • Assist in the procurement of mechanical equipment, materials, and specialist subcontract packages, ensuring technical compliance, value for money, and timely delivery.
  • Support commercial management activities including budgeting, cost control, forecasting, valuations, variations, and management of subcontractor accounts.
  • Participate in regular project reporting to senior management, providing updates on programme, commercial performance, safety, quality, risks, and resource requirements.
  • Coordinate mechanical testing, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and system validation activities to ensure successful operational handover to the client.
  • Ensure all quality assurance documentation, inspection records, test packs, and O&M manuals are completed accurately and in accordance with project requirements.
  • Support the implementation of PSDP/PSCS obligations and ensure all required site safety documentation and permits are maintained and up to date.
  • Mentor and support team members.
  • Contribute to tendering and pre-construction activities where required.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with all project stakeholders and respond effectively to technical queries, project challenges, and client requirements.
  • Keep informed of current industry developments, mechanical technologies, wastewater treatment processes, and relevant Irish and European standards through continuous professional development (CPD).
  • Carry out any other duties appropriate to the role and operational requirements of the business.
