Job summary

Apple Ireland in Cork is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to own the mechanical building systems across its facilities portfolio and lead maintenance, data analytics, and CAPEX-to-OPEX transitions.

You will drive continuous improvement, ensure ISO 14001 and Legionella L8 compliance, manage vendors, and partner with project managers to deliver safe, productive environments for Apple staff and customers.

Qualifications

• Proven track record of managing, operating, and troubleshooting commercial mechanical building services.
• Experience executing preventative maintenance programs to optimize mechanical systems.
• Knowledge of facilities health, safety, and environmental compliance (permit to work, LOTO, water quality).
• Experience overseeing maintenance vendors and service contracts with quality outcomes.
• Strong communication and collaboration across cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Own day-to-day mechanical building systems across the portfolio.

• Provide outstanding customer service to internal Apple stakeholders in safe, well-maintained facilities.

• Provide leadership updates on performance, trends, and risks to executives.

Description

The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for our mechanical building services, critical infrastructure, driving efficiency and sustainability. You will be instrumental in ensuring the smooth operation of our facilities, directly impacting employee productivity and the overall Apple experience.

Responsibilities

• Act as the day-to-day owner of all mechanical building systems across our portfolio.
• Drive continuous improvement by enhancing our structured preventative maintenance program to minimize equipment downtime, leveraging system optimization.
• Lead the implementation of data analytics across the portfolio to drive operational excellence.
• Support CAPEX projects by partnering with Apple project managers to provide input on mechanical building services design, construction, and commissioning.
• Own the mechanical building services turnover process from CAPEX to OPEX to ensure a smooth transition to our operations team.
• Ensure compliance with ISO 14001 and Legionella L8, maintaining accurate, audit-ready records, permits to work, and safety protocols, while proactively addressing regulatory feedback.
• Manage and oversee all maintenance-related contracts, ensuring adherence to scope, budget, and quality standards.
• Provide outstanding customer service, enabling internal Apple customers to do their life’s best work in safe, well-maintained facilities.
• Foster and maintain excellent relationships with stakeholders and vendors.
• Provide consistent and proactive updates to leadership on operational performance, maintenance trends, and potential risks.

Minimum Qualifications

• Demonstrated practical experience managing, operating, and troubleshooting commercial mechanical building services and critical infrastructure.
• Proven track record of executing preventative maintenance programs and optimizing mechanical systems to minimize equipment downtime.
• Working knowledge of facilities health, safety, and environmental compliance (such as permit to work processes, LOTO, or water quality standards).
• Experience overseeing maintenance vendors, managing service contracts, and ensuring quality standards are met.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners.

Preferred Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, or a related technical field.
• Experience managing compliance for ISO 14001 and Legionella L8.
• Demonstrated ability to quickly grasp new technology, data analytics, and complex workflows.
• Excellent presentation skills, with the ability to communicate operational performance and risks to leadership.
