Job summary

Dublin Bus is seeking qualified Car and Bus Mechanics to join the fleet as it transitions to hybrid and electric vehicles. You may work day or night shifts and will be required to drive all company vehicles.

The role is a 6‑Month Fixed‑Term Contract with a view to permanency, offering a salary of €43,362.28–€52,418.08 on a 6‑year pay scale, with a shift premium where applicable.

Qualifications

  • SOLAS National Craft Certificate or equivalent Level 6 qualification.
  • SOLAS Advanced Certificate – Craft or equivalent Level 6 qualification.
  • Valid Irish Category B driving licence – at least 2 years, no endorsements.
  • Valid Irish Category D licence – with no endorsements.
  • Over 21 years old for insurance purposes.
  • Good command of the English language.
  • Willing to work shifts, including nights and weekends.
  • NDLS Driver statement available on request.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose vehicle and plant faults.
  • Maintain mechanical, electrical, and body systems of vehicles.
  • Operate garage equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on vehicles, plant and premises.
  • Maintain Electric Vehicles.

Job Description

Calling all qualified Car and Bus Mechanics to join Dublin Bus’s exciting transition to hybrid and electric vehicles. All successful applicants may be required to work day/night or rotating shifts depending on the staffing requirements of their location and will be required to drive all company vehicles.

Mechanic, Engineering Department. Reporting to the Engineering Manager. 6‑Month Fixed‑Term Contract (with a view to a permanent contract of employment). Competitive Salary: €43,362.28 – €52,418.08 on a 6‑year pay scale. Shift premium (up to 30% of basic pay) where applicable.

Areas of responsibility (not limited to):

  • Vehicle and plant fault diagnosis.
  • All tasks associated with the mechanical systems, electrical systems, and body systems of vehicles.
  • Operate garage equipment.
  • Preventative maintenance and repair of vehicles, plant, and premises.
  • Maintain Electric Vehicles.

Qualifications / Requirements
  • National Craft Certificate for the trade of Heavy/light Vehicle Mechanic awarded by SOLAS/Department of Education following the successful completion of a recognised SOLAS apprenticeship – or equivalent to this level 6 qualification, in the National Framework of Qualifications in Ireland.
  • Advanced Certificate – Craft awarded by FETAC following the successful completion of a recognised SOLAS apprenticeship – or equivalent to this level 6 qualification, in the National Framework of Qualifications in Ireland.
  • Driving Licence: A valid, clean Category B Irish Driving Licence – held for a minimum of 2 years, with no endorsements.
  • Driving Licence: A valid, clean Full Category D Irish Driving Licence – with no endorsements.
  • For insurance reasons applicants must be over 21 years (to comply with D licence regulation).
  • Applicants must have a good command of the English language.
  • Available to work shifts, including nights, weekends, public holidays, and rotating shifts depending on operational requirements.
