Job summary

Dublin Bus, the largest public transport provider in Ireland, is seeking an Engineering Operative in the Engineering Department to help keep buses safe and in service. The role includes operating shifts (days/nights) and driving company vehicles as required, with a 6-month fixed-term contract and potential for permanent employment.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you must hold a valid Irish driving licence, be over 21, and be able to work a rotating shift pattern.

Qualifications

  • Valid, clean Category B Irish driving licence (no endorsements).
  • Alternatively, valid, clean full Category D Irish driving licence (no endorsements).
  • Over 21 years old (to comply with D licence regulation).
  • Fluent spoken and written English (desirable).
  • Available to work shifts, including nights, weekends, public holidays, and rotating shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Shunt buses around the yard (cleaning, refueling, parking, etc.).
  • Perform battery maintenance, greasing, refueling, and oil changes on buses.
  • Clean and vacuum buses and premises (including chassis cleaning).
  • Undertake minor repairs and maintenance tasks on buses.

Job Description

Dublin Bus is the largest public transport provider in Ireland, operating over 1,000 buses that need to be cleaned, vacuumed, refueled and returned to service almost 24 hours a day. We are looking for people who will maintain our buses safely and efficiently and who will ensure our customers have a positive experience of Dublin Bus.

All successful applicants may be required to work day, night or rotating shifts depending on staffing requirements, and will be required to drive all company vehicles.

Position: Engineering Operative, Engineering Department

Reporting to: Engineering Manager

Contract: 6‑month fixed‑term (with a view to a permanent contract)

Salary: €616.90 per week rising to €713.90 based on an 8‑year pay scale with shift premium applicable for night and shift work (up to 30% of basic pay) from January 2026.
