Job summary

Study Group is seeking an on-site lecturer at the Dublin International Study Centre to plan and deliver learning programmes for international students preparing for level 1 undergraduate study at UCD. Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics, Physics or related area (essential).
  • Teaching qualification or post-graduate degree (desirable).
  • Experience of teaching in Higher/Further Education or Leaving Certificate (essential).
  • Experience of working with international students (desirable).

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver learning programmes through schemes of work.
  • Plan teaching sessions using diverse resources and digital learning.
  • Ensure learning materials are available on the VLE and students can access them.
  • Provide regular feedback and ensure assessments align with QQI requirements.
  • Write summative assessments and prepare students for external exams.
  • Support student progress with action planning and progress checks.
  • Maintain records of attendance and progress and liaise with tutors.
  • Promote safeguarding and welfare of students and adhere to Health & Safety.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics, Physics or related area
Teaching qualification or post-graduate degree

Location: Dublin, Dublin International Study Centre (On-Site)

Salary: up to €42,000 per annum

To plan and deliver effective programmes which prepare international students for level 1 undergraduate study in UCD and to support students in achieving their progression requirements.

ABOUT THE ROLE
Teaching and Learning
  • Plan and execute appropriate, effective and inclusive learning programmes through
  • schemes of work
  • Plan teaching sessions which accommodate individualised learning using a variety of
  • resources, including digital learning
  • Ensure a broad range of learning materials are available on the VLE for students to access
  • and engage with, including self-directed tasks and activities that facilitate feedback and
  • interaction
  • Apply the principles of learning and teaching to provide learning activities to meet curriculum
  • requirements and the needs of all students, considering the QQI Level 5 requirements for
  • the programme.
  • Select the relevant learning approaches and skill development to ensure students’ progress.
  • Contribute to the provision of a stimulating learning environment whilst adhering to the
  • Centres’ Health and Safety procedures
Assessment
  • Apply the theories and principles of assessment including initial, diagnostic, formative and summative assessment
  • Use a variety of methods to check learning in lessons (formative assessment)
  • Ensure that interactive assessment activities are available to students through the VLE
  • Provide regular and timely feedback to students to enable them to improve and achieve their qualifications
  • Write summative assessments according to the QQI Programme Assessment Briefs, addressing to their correspondent learning outcomes (including repeat assessments).
  • Prepare students for summative assessment through revision sessions and practice assessments
  • Engage in moderation of assessment materials and student work, including double marking, thorough and timely preparation of all relevant documentation for the external examiners and QQI external authenticators, and participation in module assessment boards.
  • Ensure that all summative assessments follow their correspondent assessment briefs, as per the QQI validated programme.
Progress Support
  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate records of student attendance and progress
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to lapses in student attendance, punctuality, behaviour
  • and application to their studies by individual conversations with students, referrals to
  • personal tutors or referrals to professional services
  • Support students with individual target setting and revise these throughout the year during
  • progress checks
  • Support student with action planning to improve academic performance and achieve
  • aspirational targets
  • Be available to offer support to students as required (e.g. workshops, booster and revision
  • classes and one-to-one feedback sessions)
  • Support students to progress to the University by being proactive in liaising with University
  • Schools and link tutors
  • Contribute to student progress reports in a clear and constructive manner
  • Strive for and attain high levels of student achievement
Learning and Welfare Support
  • Refer students for learning support where appropriate
  • Take responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of students in your care
  • Refer to support services where appropriate.
  • Contribute to effective communication with stakeholders (parents, sponsors, University etc)
Personal Learning and Development
  • Be aware of and comply with all Centre quality assurance processes such as observation of
  • teaching and learning, audits of teaching and learning material (including VLE content, exam
  • papers, assessment briefs) programme and module evaluation and subject team performance
  • reviews
  • Demonstrate and update subject specialist knowledge to ensure the currency of specialist
  • teaching
  • Convey enthusiasm for personal specialist area to staff and students
  • Engage in professional development to improve teaching and learning practice, and update
  • subject specialist knowledge
  • Undertake reflection and self-evaluation of personal teaching practice and continuing
  • professional development
  • Comply with expectations of professional conduct
  • Use student feedback to improve personal performance
Team working
  • Work as part of the academic team to produce and develop an exciting curriculum for
  • students
  • Be prepared to operate on a flexible basis to meet the needs of the academic team and the
  • Centre as a whole
  • Be available to cover lessons for absent colleagues as required
  • Prepare for and participate in appropriate Centre events (e.g. induction activities, University
  • school events, award ceremonies etc.)
  • Promote a cohesive work ethic within the academic team and the Centre as a whole
  • Share best practice and contribute to the academic team’s bank of effective
  • resources/ideas/activities for Teaching and Learning
  • Attend team and centre meetings in accordance with the Centre’s meeting schedule
  • Implement internal and QQI quality assurance procedures at module and teaching session
  • level and contribute to the annual monitoring and review of courses.
