Job summary

Murphy is recruiting a Managing Quantity Surveyor to join our Infrastructure team, delivering a major water infrastructure project in partnership with United Utilities as part of the AMP8 programme.

The role requires proven commercial experience and active professional development with RICS/ICES, plus knowledge of NEC/Standard Methods of Measurement. You will lead valuation, cost reporting, procurement, and final accounts across the project.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience within a Commercial role (Assistant Quantity Surveyor/Quantity Surveyor or similar).
  • Registered with RICS / ICES and working towards chartership.
  • Knowledge of Standard Forms of Contract; NEC preferable with Standard Methods of Measurement.

Responsibilities

  • Aid in internal commercial reporting and other required reports.
  • Prepare valuations and payment applications with full documentation.
  • Control cost reports to the client with contractually compliant documentation.
  • Prepare and manage subcontract and material procurement schedules.
  • Administer subcontractor/supplier accounts from requisitions to final accounts.
  • Undertake contract administration including change management and registers.
  • Identify commercial risks, opportunities, value engineering and change.
  • Use cost allocation/coding to satisfy internal and external requirements.
  • Measure quantities in accordance with standard methods of measurement.
  • Assist in final accounts preparation.

Murphy is recruiting for aManaging Quantity Surveyorto join our growing Infrastructure team, delivering a major water infrastructure project in partnership with United Utilities, as part of the AMP8 programme.

Murphy is a long-standing delivery partner to leading water clients across the UK and Ireland, including Thames Water, Severn Trent, Northern Ireland Water, Yorkshire Water, SES Water, Bristol Water, South East Water, and Uisce Éireann, where we operate over 25 facilities under full DBOM contracts.

A day in the life of a Murphy Quantity Surveyor
  • Aid in the internal commercial reporting and any other reports which may be required.
  • Prepare Valuations/Applications for Payment with full documentation in accordance with the contract
  • Control of Cost Reports to the Client with contractually compliant documentation
  • Preparation and management of subcontract and material procurement schedules
  • Administration of subcontractor/supplier accounts from the preparation of detailed requisitions, monitoring, and authorisation of subcontract payments through to agreement of final accounts
  • Undertake the contract administration, including change management and maintain associated registers.
  • Identifying commercial risks, opportunities, value engineering and change
  • Use the cost allocation/coding which satisfies both internal and external requirements.
  • Measurement of quantities in accordance with the standard methods of measurement as required.
  • Assist in the preparation of project final accounts.
  • Drafting of subcontracts including professional services.
