The Role
To lead, manage and continually develop the maintenance team in the achievement of functional objectives that support the Site/Plant and Company Business Plan. Work closely with the production team to continuously improve site overall equipment effectiveness, people development and a lean culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day maintenance function across the site, ensuring equipment and facilities remain safe, reliable and operational.
- Develop, implement and maintain an effective planned preventative maintenance (PPM) programme.
- Manage reactive maintenance and ensure breakdowns are responded to quickly and effectively to minimise production downtime.
- Identify recurring equipment failures and implement permanent corrective actions.
- Plan maintenance shutdowns and effectively allocate resources to ensure works are completed safely, efficiently and with minimal disruption to production.
- Ensure appropriate Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO) and safe systems of work are implemented and followed.
- Monitor equipment performance, downtime and maintenance KPIs to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Ensure maintenance activities are properly planned, recorded and followed through, providing accurate maintenance reporting where required.
- Manage servicing requirements, statutory inspections and contractor visits, ensuring all works are completed within the required timescales.
- Maintain appropriate levels of critical spare parts and ensure effective stock control and spare parts optimisation.
- Work closely with Production to coordinate maintenance activities and support laundry process optimisation.
- Lead engineering projects, equipment upgrades and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Manage maintenance budgets and expenditure, ensuring resources are used effectively and cost-efficiently.
- Manage maintenance contractors and external service providers, ensuring work is completed safely and to the required standard.
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with company Health & Safety procedures.
- Support risk assessments, safety inspections and accident/incident investigations where required.
- Ensure statutory maintenance, inspections and certification requirements are completed within the required timescales.
- Work closely with QSE to identify and control engineering-related risks and support audit preparation and healthcare compliance requirements.
- Lead, motivate and develop the Maintenance team to deliver a professional and responsive engineering service.
- Manage team performance, attendance, conduct and development in line with company procedures, including regular performance reviews.
- Coach technicians and identify training and development needs to improve technical capability and performance.
- Promote teamwork, accountability and a continuous improvement mindset.
- Build strong working relationships with Production, Operations, QSE and other departments.
- Lead by example and demonstrate a visible commitment to safety, quality and operational excellence.
Requirements
- 8+ years' experience in an industrial maintenance or engineering environment.
- Previous leadership experience.
- Demonstrable experience managing and developing a maintenance/engineering team.
- Experience working in a high-volume manufacturing, production, laundry, food, FMCG or similarly fast-paced industrial environment would be highly advantageous.
- Proven experience managing both planned preventative and reactive maintenance.
- Experience troubleshooting mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Experience managing contractors and external engineering suppliers.
- Experience with maintenance budgets, spare parts and engineering expenditure.
- Experience using maintenance KPIs to improve equipment reliability and reduce downtime.
Qualifications
Essential
- Professional diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering (preferred), Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or a related discipline.
- Demonstrable practical industrial maintenance experience.
- At least 3 years of experience in a leadership role
Desirable
- Engineering degree or higher-level technical qualification.
- Electrical qualification/experience.
- QQI 7 in Electric, Mechanic, or Mechatronic
- PLC/automation experience.
- IOSH, NEBOSH or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.
- Lean/Six Sigma or continuous improvement qualification.
- Experience with CMMS/maintenance management systems.
