Job summary

Global Medics is seeking a Locum GP Specialist to join our Ireland-based team. The role covers OST clinics, addiction management, and comprehensive GP duties across Co. Meath & Co.

Louth with a flexible long-term locum contract. Expect roughly 3 clinics per week (6 sessions) and care across multiple sites. The practitioner will deliver prescriptions, monitor patient progress, and engage in quality improvement, audits, and ongoing education.

Qualifications

• Must be actively working as a GP in Ireland or recent Irish GP experience.
• IMC Specialist Registration is desirable but not required.
• Personal Indemnity Cover.
• Addiction service experience desirable but could be considered from GPs with Level 1 addiction certificates or substance abuse/psychiatry experience.

Responsibilities

• Prescribe OST medications (Methadone/Buprenorphine) and monitor treatment.
• Manage addiction care including benzodiazepine dependence and alcohol use disorders.
• Contribute to FOI requests and service complaints with Regional Manager.
• Attend MDT meetings and contribute to care plans and policy discussions.
• Provide vaccination programs and participate in clinical audits and service research.

Job Description:

Prescribing OST clinics to ensure that service users have access to treatment including Methadone/Buprenorphine, Naloxone and where appropriate provide benzodiazepine dependence and alcohol use disorder within the agreed timeframe set out in the National Substance Misuse Strategy and National KPIs. Work with the Regional Manager in relation to FOI requests and Complaints. Assess service users on presentation (medical and addiction assessment), prescribe a course of treatment and monitor that treatment for its duration Provide care for patients with opioid use disorder with OST medication, the post holder will also possess the knowledge and skillset to treat, where appropriate, benzodiazepine dependence and alcohol use disorder Screen service users for relevant viral diseases, evaluate the results, treat and refer to specialist services where appropriate Provide appropriate vaccination programs to service users under their care Attend multidisciplinary clinical team meetings where service users' cases will be discussed and treatment plans developed with the care team Participate in regular meetings with those working in the service at which GPs' views on policy, operational issues and service development will be discussed and consensus positions developed Participate in continuing medical education to update skills in treating addiction problems Participate in regular audit of clinical issues within services in line with the best practice Participate in relevant research in the service Provide monthly statistical returns detailing appropriate activity showing client level, length of stay and follow on to GP in Community. Secretarial back up will be provided to facilitate this duty Maintain all appropriate records in relation to service users in accordance with best practice Out of Hours requirement for emergency online scripting on occasion
