Job summary

Lead Warehouse Automation Engineer role in Mayo, Ireland (On-site) for a client supported by Hero Recruitment. You will own the integration of SAP S/4HANA/SAP EWM with third-party WMS, middleware, and field-level control systems while ensuring continuous operation of automated warehouse processes.

Responsibilities include troubleshooting, data mapping, and interface development across IT/OT boundaries, with hands-on work in SCADA, Linux environments, and robotic fleet integration.

Responsibilities

• End-to-end ownership of integration flows across SAP S/4HANA, SAP EWM, third-party WMS, middleware, and field-level control systems
• Hands-on expertise with SAP IDocs, RESTful/SOAP APIs, JSON, XML data mapping, MSSQL, and message broker architectures
• Advanced diagnostics and rapid root cause analysis across application layers, database connections, communication pipelines, and PLC/SCADA interfaces to guarantee 24/7 uptime
• TCP/IP networking, subnetting, VLANs, routing, DNS/DHCP, firewall rules, and OT-IT boundary connectivity
• SCADA Platform Engineering: Ignition SCADA scripting and SQL bindings
• System administration in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and virtualised server environments
• Robotics & Fleet Integration: interface protocols for AMRs and AGVs
• Scripting & Data Automation: building monitoring, alerting, and data extraction pipelines using Python and SQL

As part of a planned step-up in technical capability, they are seeking a technical engineer to take ownership of the systems that keep automated warehouse operations running reliably, day in, day out.

Core Technical Pillars

• System Integration & Architecture: End-to-end ownership of integration flows across SAP S/4HANA, SAP EWM, third-party/proprietary WMS, middleware, and field-level control systems
• Interface & Data Protocols: Hands-on expertise with SAP IDocs, RESTful/SOAP APIs, JSON, XML data mapping, MSSQL, and message broker/queuing architectures
• Tier-3 Troubleshooting & RCA: Advanced diagnostics and rapid root cause analysis across application layers, database connections, communication pipelines, and PLC/SCADA interfaces to guarantee 24/7 uptime
• IP Networking & Infrastructure: Strong grasp of TCP/IP networking, subnetting, VLANs, routing, DNS/DHCP, firewall rules, and OT-IT boundary connectivity

High-Impact Technical Capabilities

• SCADA Platform Engineering: Configuration and development with Inductive Automation Ignition SCADA (Python scripting, SQL bindings, transaction groups, AD integration)
• Operating Systems & Environments: System administration in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and virtualised server environments
• Robotics & Fleet Integration: Interface protocols, mission dispatching, and traffic orchestration for AMRs and AGVs
• Scripting & Data Automation: Building monitoring, alerting, and data extraction pipelines using Python and SQL

Advantageous Skills

• Industrial fieldbus standards (EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Modbus TCP, OPC UA)
