Job summary

Web Summit seeks a Lead Engineer for its attendee-facing web app in Dublin. You will lead a small team alongside a product manager and designer, own technical work, and line-manage engineers, with about 60% of time spent coding.

You will build and improve the web app used by attendees before and during events, shipping small, end-to-end improvements and ensuring performance under heavy load. You’ll mentor engineers and collaborate with Product and Design to shape the next releases.

Qualifications

• Strong Ruby on Rails and PostgreSQL experience. Server-rendered views & JavaScript where appropriate.
• Experience shipping and improving customer-facing software in small, incremental steps.
• Experience growing a product from minimal building blocks and keeping them small as it scales.
• Experience making production changes safe through tests, monitoring, staged rollout and recovery plans.
• Proven ability to develop engineers: set expectations, give feedback, delegate responsibly.

Responsibilities

• Build and improve the attendee-facing web app, collaborating with Product and Design.
• Ship small improvements end-to-end and iterate based on learnings.
• Keep the app fast and reliable for tens of thousands of users during events.
• Mentor engineers through clear expectations, feedback, and shared ownership.
• Work on site at events, observe usage, and feed insights back to the product.
