Job summary

H&MV Engineering, a global leader in high-voltage electrical engineering, seeks a Lead Electrical Engineer to drive design across multi-disciplinary HV projects in Ireland and internationally. You will lead the electrical design team, coordinate with civil designers, and ensure technical excellence and timely delivery.

You will report to the Engineering Manager/Director and shape design strategies while mentoring engineers.

Qualifications

  • Honours degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum of 6 years in a similar HV contracting or utility environment; proficiency in electrical design software.
  • Proven leadership and people-management skills; excellent communication and collaboration abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the electrical design team on HV projects.
  • Coordinate work to Electrical Engineers and ensure on-track progress per milestones.
  • Act as SPOC with Utility providers and client owners engineer; maintain design logs and submittals.
  • Prepare procurement specs for HV primary plant components (transformers, breakers, switchgear).
  • Review supplier docs and schematics for compliance with specs and functionality.
  • Approve HV layouts, systems, and single line diagrams; oversee protection coordination and fault studies.
  • Attend meetings with Utility providers and client owners engineer as required.

About the Role:

We are looking for Electrical Design Team Leads to add to our growing Engineering team and become the driving force behind our high voltage projects. You’ll be part of the design team for a range of multi-disciplinary Transmission & Distribution projects both domestically and internationally.

The Design Teams Leads are responsible for leading & managing the design team that he/she is allocated. He/she will report directly to the Engineering Manager/Engineering Director.

Key Responsibilities
  • Overall responsibility for the electrical requirements of projects assigned to you ensuring resources are assigned and the project runs efficiently.
  • Assign and co-ordinate work to Electrical Engineers and ensure work provided is on track for completion in line with project milestones.
  • Work closely with civil designer to ensure civil aspects meet electrical equipment requirements. Act as single point of contact (SPOC) with Utility provider and client owners engineer.
  • Manage electrical & civil design logs from Utility provider and client owners engineer.
  • Manage design pack submittals to Utility provider and client owners engineer.
  • Preparation of procurement specifications for the main primary plant including HV power transformers, HV circuit breakers, HV switchgear and NERs.
  • Review supplier documents and schematics to ensure equipment is compliant with technical specifications and functional specifications.
  • Responsible for approval of physical HV layouts, electrical systems, secondary control and protection systems and single line diagrams.
  • Responsible for approval of HV system studies including protection coordination, voltage regulation, load flow and fault level reports.
  • Attend Utility provider and client owners engineer meetings as required.
Key Requirements
  • Honours Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 6 years' experience in a similar role within an HV contracting or utility environment. Proficient in electrical design software, including ETAP, EPLAN, and AutoCAD.
  • Experienced in leading and managing teams, with proven people management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities for effective collaboration across disciplines.
  • Recognised as a team-oriented professional who takes initiative and drives projects forward.
